(Y/N) (L/N), six years-old, was sitting off to the side as people mourned over the loss of their dear friend, Yoshimasa Tsuyuki. Whispers of people's conversations could be heard from were you were sitting all alone.
"He was a good man," an old woman said.
"His poor wife," said one gentlemen in the front. "She must be devastated. His kids must be even more upset."
"That was another attack," said a man who was most likely a member of C3. "He was killed by a vampire."
"Wasn't Thomas (L/N) also killed in the attack?" asked a young woman. At the mention of your brother's name, you looked down and your eyes became watery. His funeral was two days ago, three weeks after he was killed in horrific and gory fight between the members of C3 and the vampires. You were only six, but you were able to understand the concept of death.
You looked up and saw a woman dressed in black with a sad look on her face, there were gray bags under her eyes from lack of sleep. A little boy was holding her hand, clinging to her as if he would die if he didn't. The mother let go of her son's hand and walked over to the crowd of people, who all started saying "I'm sorry for your loss". She must've been Mrs. Tsuyuki, and the boy was... What was his name...? Shuichi...? No, not that... Shota...? Not that either...
"Shuhei," Mrs. Tsuyuki addressed the child. "Go talk to the other children." The little boy nodded and walked away, he scanned the room, looking for the 'other children' his mother was talking about. The only other child there was you, so he walked up to you, a solemn frown on his pale, somewhat chubby face.
"Hello."
Present Day
You have been friends with Tsuyuki for ages at this point, you were on the combat team while he was on the research team. He was somewhat envious of you being on the combat team, which he would much prefer to fight than do research on things others have discovered before. You sometimes teased him about that, which would usually end in him walking away in annoyance and not talking to you for the rest of the day.
"Shuhei," You called for your friend. "What did you need me for?"
"You actually cared enough to come?" He said in disbelief.
"Obviously," You began. "So, did you need me to help you hide a dead body or something?" Shuhei just stared at you, wondering if you were joking. "Oh my- It was a joke!"
Shuhei rolled his eyes and pushed up his glasses, shaking his head. "I need you to test out a weapon Izuna made." He requested. He gave you an odd-looking gun with a dark blue, rubber handle grip. He told you to go down to the testing room with him so he could see how powerful it was. You held up the gun, aiming it at the bull's eye half way across the room as Shuhei stood behind you with a clipboard and pen in his hands.
You waited for a few seconds until you gently pulled the trigger, you felt your arms shake as a bullet coated in electricity hit the center of the target and blew it to pieces as fast as the speed of light. Your mouth hung agape as you stared at the gun, you then started grinning and turned to face Shuhei.
"Well," You said, throwing the gun in the air and catching it. "Izuna definitely out did herself, she did great work."
"I'll pay your compliments to the developer." He replied, writing down notes on the clipboard. You followed him back to the lab as he kept writing and walking at the same time, him tripping over things once or twice. But he had fallen on a pillow, saying that it was always good to be prepared. He sat down at his desk while you leaned on his chair, watching him work. He didn't seem to notice that you at first, until you started talking to him.
"Is this really all you do all day?" You ask. "Just sit around and take notes?"
"I wish I could've gotten onto the combat team," He told you with an agravated tone. "But life isn't always fair."
"Are you still mad about calling you baby-face-cakes?" You said.
"No," He replied. "Wait, when did you-"
"You could always try again, you know?"You told him.
"What's the use in trying?" He began. "I've failed once, they probably won't accept me... At all."
You raised your eyebrow and stopped leaning on his chair. You timidly wrapped your arms around his his neck from the back, resting your chin on his shoulder. His shoulders stiffened, as if you were going to suddenly strangle him if he didn't remain still. "Listen, Shuhei," You queried. "You are one of the most amusing people I have had the pleasure of meeting. But I don't understand why you care what they think and why you want to be on the combat team..."
Tsuyuki stayed silent for a moment. "I want to avenge my father..." He answered. "All vampires do is kill people and make everything worse... We must eliminate them all."
"You have no idea what it's like on the battlefield, Shuhei," You continued. "You don't know if you'll die or live another day... And many people get the short end of the stick-"
"Don't you fight to avenge your brother?" He said defensively. "You use to say you wanted to be like him when we were children."
"... I don't fight revenge," You explained. "I fight for myself and to protect people by keeping the unruly vampires in line... Other vampires who just want to be left alone shouldn't suffer for another vampire's actions."
The sweet sound of silence filled the room like a heavy mist, smothering the both of you. You moved your hands away from Shuhei's shoulders and began to walk out the door. But he grabbed your hand and made you face him, which you were somewhat reluctant to do.
"You're acting naive..." He started. "Like a stubborn little school girl."
"And you're a pessimist who only sees the bad in others and wants to fight with spaghetti arms, but do you see me complaining...?" You told.
"'Spaghetti arms'...?!" He repeated. "Sometimes I don't like you, (Y/N)."
"Aw, thanks, I'm flattered." You joked, you pecked him on the cheek as he opened his mouth to say something else. "Okay, good bye!" You curled your fingers around the doorknob to the lab and cracked open the door.
"Just go away and let me work..." He spoke as he got himself back to reality and reached for his clipboard, you cracked a smile as he almost stumbled over another desk's chair.
"Love you too, Shuhei."
