Misono tried to reach a book on the top shelf in the library at his home, but he couldn't even reach the shelf. You looked up from your novel as he struggles to grab the book he wanted.

"Need help?" You asked him, he groans and turns to you.

"No," He told you. "I can get it myself!" He jumped up, trying to momentarily enhance his height so he could reach the book.

"Are you sure?" You said, hoping he would say yes.

"I'm absolutely sure!" He says, prideful, he continues to struggle, which makes you cringe as you just watch him. You and Misono were nicknamed 'The Giant and The Elf" in middle school, due to him being only five-foot-one, and you being five-foot-eleven. Everyone would ask you to help them reach stuff on the higher shelves, and you were pretty outgoing, or in other words, the exact opposite of Misono. You sigh and set down your book on the table, walking over to the book shelf. Your eyes skim over the spines of the books, reading title after title.

"Hey, what was the book you wanted?" You asked him.

"I told you I can get it myself!" Misono exclaims, you raise an eyebrow.

"Sure... What was the book you wanted?" You repeated, Misono lowered his head and mumbled the title of the book.

"What did you say?" You ask him to repeat himself.

"I said can you get Gone With The Wind, please!" He restated, louder. You outstretch your arm in front of you to grab the book, handing it down to him. He was still looking down as he walked over to the table and chairs, placing the book in the mahogany table top. He sits down and opens up the old book, trying to hide his red face.

"You don't have to be embarrassed, Misono," You tell him as you sit down next to the petite lad. "No one's here to laugh at you."

"I know that! It's just weird that you still have to do that for me... And we're in middle school now," He admits. "Anyway, you're birthday's in (M/O/B), right?"

"Uh, yeah, why...?" You question as you read through the pages of The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo.

"I'm not going to be in town then," He explains. "So I... I... I got..." You watched as he struggled to speak, his cheeks as red as cherries. He finally gave up speaking and walked out of the room, coming back shortly while holding something behind his back.

"Are you okay?" You ask him, concerned about his strange behaviour. He holds up the object, showing you a book. A book you've wanted to read for a long time.

"Les Misérables," You read the title aloud, your eyes shining as you take the book from his small hands.

"You said you wanted to read it, but you couldn't find it anywhere," He began. "I was saving it for your birthday, but..." You suddenly embrace your small friend, picking him up off the ground.

"Thank you so much!" You say, still holding Misono off the ground. You set him back down when you saw he was turning blue from lack of oxygen, he heaved in air heavily until he started to breathe normally again, he sat down and began to resumed to reading his book. You sat down and opened it to the first page, excited to read the story you never could get your hand on until now. But something fell out of it, you picked up a small envelope that was slightly crumbled and folded. Your name was written in fancy cursive on the back, you ripped it open and pulled out a little piece of paper, reading the words written in purple ink.

Dear (Y/N),

So, this may come as a surprise to you, but... I like you. I really like you. In a romantic way. I'm not sure that you will ever feel the same about me, though. You're kind, funny, and a great friend to me. I always felt lonely when I was little, until I met you, you treated me like I mattered. You always made me happy whenever I was upset, and you were always by my side through the hardest of times. But, I want to be more than friends with you, I hope you feel the same.

Sincerely,

Misono Alicein

Your jaw dropped as you read over the last few lines, you closed your mouth as you felt your face begin to warm up. You looked up at Misono, who was still intently reading his book, you had no idea he felt the same way

"Um, Misono...?" You addressed him, he lifted his eyes from his book when he heard his name. "Did you mean to put this in here?"

"What is it?" He questions, you hand him the paper. His eyes dart over the words, his face immediately turned red and his eyes widened. "I thought I threw this away!"

"I took it out and put it in the book for you, Misono," You hear a voice say, you suddenly notice that Lily is sitting in his hair in butterfly form.

"Lily! I threw this out for a reason! It's embarrassing!" Misono hollered at his Servamp, who began to fly away from his agitated Eve. He crumbled up the note and threw it at Lily as he fluttered out of the library, chuckling at the boy's reactions.

"Misono," You addressed him, he turned to you suddenly, his face still red. "Was everything in that note true?" He struggled to find the words, instead, he stuttered as he tried to explain himself.

"Y-yes..." He finally blurted out. "I like you... A lot..." You stood up and walked over to him, you still towered over him like a skyscraper. It's been that way since you were both kids, and for the only time in your decade-long friendship, Misono looked intimidated by you.

"Misono," You said, he flinches under your voice, as if he's waiting to be rejected. Instead, you picked him up once again and planted a kiss on his forehead. You put him back on the ground, his eyes full of shock and his jaw hanging open. "I love you, too."
