October 13

Want to know what's even worse than just watching you slip away from my grasp? Watching you slowly diminish from me, while I'm doing everything in my power to keep you; knowing all my efforts still weren't enough to replenish our love. I hate when I have those idiotic moments, where, just for a split second, I think I'm making enough progress to further our new relationship.

Today was a particularly rainy day, storm clouds circling the sky to create a dark shadow surrounding us. You took me to a random beach close to our house; it was nearly empty with only an elderly couple walking along the shore and a jogger with her dog.

Because of the terrible weather and the chilling breeze, your teeth began chattering as you gripped your shaking arms. Little drops of rain were streaming down the sides of your cheeks and falling onto your lips, but you didn't seem to care that much. Except, seeing you shivering cold and disheveled underneath the breezy air, I knew I still cared.

I took off my oversized rain coat, and enveloped your shaking body with it. Immediately, a smile lit up your face at the sudden warmth your body obtained, and you snuggled up underneath my jacket, relishing in the cozy comfort it brought you.

We walked near the water, letting the rhythmic noise of the crashing waves be the only  real sound between us.

Unfortunately, our journey along the beach was cut short, as a sudden downpour rained us out. Laughing wildly, you ran hand in hand with me back to the safety of our car and jumped inside immediately.

Both of us, now soaking wet, couldn't control the inevitable laughter that erupted from our mouths. Sitting there, joking about our unluckiness and sharing wishes to go back outside, felt like old times.

So when I leaned in to kiss you, I almost forgot that you weren't with me anymore. All I saw was those pink lips, wet with the rain water and slightly plump from you always biting them nervously, and my temptations overcame me. But right after I leaned in, you turned away to face the window and I realized, once again, you weren't mine anymore.
