"I don't know.. I just feel bad, you know? What Chaeseon did, or rather, was trying to do was wrong, but I don't know if she deserved what she got," I frowned as I shoved a pair of shoes into my suitcase.
Handing me my hairbrush, Sumi shrugged. "I don't know," She said, "She was pretty manipulative. She was trying to sabotage Astro."
"Yeah.. But you know how hard it's going to be for her to get a job now? She's so young, and the public will find out; there's no way around it. I wouldn't be surprised if KpopInsight wrote about it just to get attention."
"I'm more concerned about the rest of 4Life," Sumi admitted.
I nodded as well with a sigh. As I zipped up my now fully packed suitcase, I said, "Well, that was the last of it. Despite everything that's happened, I'm really excited to spend this whole week with everyone!"
"Yay!" Sumi pumped a fist in the air. "Now let's gooooo!" She grabbed my arm, and I quickly snatched up my suitcase as she pulled me down the stairs where my parents waited for me to say bye.
Nothing exciting had happened the rest of the school week, besides teachers cramming in more material and cranking out tests before break. No one was talking about the Fantagio incident yet, but a whole week of break was enough for them to find out. Scandals, especially Kpop scandals, spread fast here.
I was more than ready to put everything aside and focus on having a good time, however it seemed like the thought of 4Life's fate haunted me, even now.
I said goodbye to my parents and began walking with Sumi back to her place, where Astro would meet us in a bit. As Sumi looked at her phone, I gazed upon the bustling streets of Korea, which I know I took for granted.
"Here it is.." Sumi trailed off, stopping in her tracks.
I had to back up, as she had stopped in the middle of the side walk further back, giving her a confused look. "What?"
She read from her phone, "'Kpop Trainee Group 4Life to Disband?'"
I urged her to continue on, curious as to if Fantagio's said anything to the public.
"Fantagio group, 4Life, is rumored to be disbanding, as (former) member, Byun Chaeseon, left the studio in tears hours after close. Though surrounded by guards and staff, she stopped to tell the crowd of reporters, 'I'm sorry for the things I've done. I'm sorry to the ones I tried to hurt, and I'm sorry to the ones I accidentally did in the process. 4Life... I'm so sorry. All you need to know is my time here at Fantagio has ended.'" Sumi sent me a look before continuing, "Although Fantagio hasn't released official statement on why the dancer has left, it's safe to assume 4Life's future isn't looking bright."
"That's it?" I asked, and we began walking once more.
"I guess so.." She scrolled through her phone some more. "Oh, wait!" She exclaimed, "That was yesterday, they've posted another one a while ago."
I stopped to concentrate, and she shouted, "We must keep going! We mustn't be late!"
"Why are you so dramatic?" I asked, but continued walking.
Sumi laughed before saying, "So apparently, Fantagio didn't say what happened yet, but they did talk about 4Life's future. 'With Chaeseon gone, 4Life will not continue and will disband. However, we hate to give up on the talent of the other members of the group. The three will continue to train for a period of time while we try to figure something out.'"
Frowning, I pointed out, "Well that's kind of vague. For how long? What are they trying to make happen? For readers, what actually happened to 4Life and Chaeseon?" It felt weird knowing the background behind a news story for once; actually being part of the story.
"Whatever Fantagio's doing, I guarantee they have a reason for it. Anyways, I want to spend this break drama free, please. At least, Kpop drama free; bring on the boy drama!"
"Sumi," I laughed, "All of our 'boy drama' is with Kpop boys."
"Shut up!"
-----
Half of us had to ride in the car with Sumi's mom and the other half with Sumi's dad. Sumi rode with her mom, Bin, Suyeon and her two friends, and Minhyuk. In her father's car was me, JinJin, Sanha, Dongmin, and MJ (they both have SUV's). Sumi didn't want us to "have to ride with her sister and her friends" so we rode with her father, which some people might think would be weird, but trust me when I say Mr. Yi is hilarious.
"Punch bug YELLOW!" Sanha threw his fist at my shoulder full force at the sight of the yellow Volkswagen.
"Ow!" I exclaimed, sending him a glare.
Sanha giggled and said meekly, "Sorry, Noona."
As we pulled up to the cabins, I was struck with memories from my past. My eyes fell upon the steps leading up to the left most cabin, the steps I'd slipped down when I was ten and had to be rushed to the hospital for, diagnosed with a broken arm. Then there was the giant hill in the back which Sumi and I sped down on sleds every year up until my departure. There was the front lawn where everyone, even Sumi's parents, pelted one another with snowballs in the best snowball fight ever. However, there was no snow yet, but it was expected within a day or two, and it was expected to fall hard.
"Come on, kiddos!" Mr. Yi parked the car, and we exited, meeting the others as they did the same.
"Alright, you know the drill. Well, Astro doesn't, but you're all smart, I trust," Mrs. Yi raised her eyebrows at the derpy boys who smirked in return. "Right," she continued, "Teens take the left cabin, girls take the right, and we'll be in the middle. Go ahead and get settled in. Here's the key, Miyeong."
I grasped the key, confused.
"Why does Miyeong get the key?" Sumi asked her mother.
"Because Miyeong is responsible."
"I'm your daughter!"
As we made our way up to the cabin, Mr. Yi shouted, "Don't do anything stupid!"
Minhyuk immediately harbored a devilish look. He whispered, "Let's do something stupid."
"You already did with that outfit," MJ let out a loud laugh.
Dongmin entered the conversation, "MJ, you're literally wearing a shirt that says something in English, and you can't read what."
"Shut up!"
I opened the door to the cabin after laughing to be greeted with familiarity. Somehow it still smelled like the gingerbread cookies Sumi and I always baked, but I think that's my imagination.
There were three bedrooms in this cabin. There used to be four, but they've turned it into a family room/office. This is the bigger cabin, as Sumi and I always ended up having the most people. Her parent's is a two bedroom, and the other is a single bedroom.
"Ok," Sumi turned to us all, "There are three bedrooms. Obviously, Miyeong and I get one. How do you want to split it up?"
After too many games of rock, paper, scissors, the rooming situation was settled. Dongmin, JinJin, and MJ, coincidentally the hyung line, took one room, while Bin, Minhyuk, and Sanha, coincidentally the maknae line, took the other.
"Alright, now that that's settled, do you have a spare mattress, Sumi?" Minhyuk grinned innocently at her.
She rolled her eyes, "What are you planning on doing..?"
"Um, I want to slide down the staircase, duh."
