Chapter 6: The Shadow

It was the next day. I woke up and put on a forest green cami with grey cargo shorts. I wanted to practice my flying, so I went out to the woods where if I fell, I could grab onto a tree branch, hopefully. Luckily the woods weren't too far from our house. Since I was a vampire and could run faster than anything on this earth, I ran using my vampire speed to the forest and got there in about thirty seconds. I stayed on the outskirts of the forest, so I could get out easier. I went in a little more and found a good place to practice.

I closed my eyes and imagined me lifting off the ground again. In about ten seconds, I was half way up a tree by flying. I got up to the top and I was amazed. I could see almost all of Parkveiw. I looked over at our house and I saw Nathan walking.

"Nathan!" I yelled. He didn't hear me so I called out again, "Nathan!" he still didn't hear me, so I decided I would fly down and go meet him.

As I was flying down, I kept it slow so I wouldn't fall. I made it down without falling, but once I was on the ground I heard a strange sound. I looked around to see what it was, but I couldn't see it. I went deeper into the forest to try and find it, but I couldn't.

I turned around to go back home and, then it was there. It was a big black shadow with a shape like an angel with glowing eyes and shadow claws. I was so scared, I turned around and tried to run away from it. As I was running my foot got caught under a tree root. I fell on the ground and the shadow came closer. It came so fast, I didn't know what to do. It kept coming towards me, then it passed right through me. I screamed as it went through me, then everything around me went black. I was laying on the ground of the forest, blacked out.

An hour went by and I woke up. I was still in the forest, but Nathan was here.

"Glad to see you're ok" he said.

"Wh-what happened?" I asked.

"I heard someone scream, so I went looking for the person. I found out it was you"

I sat up from laying down and leaned against a tree. Nathan and I stayed in the forest for about ten more minutes and I told him about the shadow I saw, but he didn't believe me exactly. Nathan got up, then helped me up.

"Ow ow" I said.

"What's wrong?" he asked

"My ankle, I think I twisted it."

"Here let me help" he said as his hands started to glow.

"What are you doing?"

"A healing spell"

"A what now?"

"It's a healing spell, now hold still" he put his hands on my ankle and in ten seconds, my ankle was fine.

"Woah wait, so vampires have magic to?"

"Yes, except it's rare"

"Will I have it?"

"Don't know. Well cmon lets get back."

We were on our way back, until I was too far into the forest, we lost our way.

"We have to fly otherwise we'll never get out of here" Nathan said.

"I-I still need more practice"

"Don't worry, you'll be fine. If you fall I'll catch you. I promise."

I agreed and we went on top of the forest. We looked around until we saw Parkview. Once we saw it we flew over to it. I fell a little but Nathan was quick and caught me. He carried me the rest of the way and we landed on the road. We were near my house so we walked the rest of the way.

"Hello princess" a voice came from behind. We turned around, it was Alanna.

"What do you want" Nathan said protecting me behind him.

"Oh nothing, I just wanted to know if little Jasmine over here had a fun time with the shadow inside her."

"It passed through me, it's not in me" I said.

"No dear. When that shadow passes through, it stays with the body. Well I got to run" she said as she disappeared

"Let's get home to your parents, they'll know what to do." Nathan said

We got to my house and Nathan had a look on his face. My parents knew that look and knew something was wrong. I told them about my "journey" into the forest and how there's a shadow in me.

"What did the shadow look like?" my mom asked.

"It was dark, couldn't see through it, and it had the shape of an angel, but with glowing eyes and claws." I said.

"You know what this means Natalie" my dad said.

My mom nodded sadly.

"What? what does it mean?"

"You cannot stay here, if you stay then everyone in Parkview will be in danger. You must go on a journey to obtain an amulet" my dad said.

"What amulet and where do I get it?" I asked.

"In our castle. There is an amulet that is red as blood. It's in a safe located in the bottom of the dungeon. You must hurry if Alanna finds out you're looking for it, she will do everything in her power to obtain it before you and use it to destroy everything"

"Am I supposed to go alone?" I asked.

"No, you must not go alone with the shadow inside you. You must take at least three or four others to take with you. You must choose strong vampires because if at any time the shadow decides turn you, then you have others to help you"

"Wait what do you mean by turn me?"

"It's hard to explain now you must go, before it's too late"
