Respect is something that's earned but obviously not given,
No matter if I've been present from the day that you were living,
No matter if you couldn't dance and I taught you your rhythm,
My title will be the reason that you make this decision

For I didn't birth you nor hurt you but I've been here didn't desert you
But the person who helped create you is absent I feel hurt too,
Due to the disrespect I'm sure to get why is that the first cue,
That I'm a step parent your parents companion someone to help unearth you

Help you grow on your journey and accept the role I'm tasked with,
I'm not asking to be your friend but in your life to do the dad bit,
If you need me just come and talk we'll access the problem and class it,
And figure it out together we don't have to be on some clash s***

For I'll love you as your mom does and care for you just the same,
I'll take you to all your practice and never miss any games,
I'll honor your every wish and give advice so you can gain,
All I want is to be a part of your world all the same.

* I wrote this because all step parents aren't bad but they're treated like they're worthless. Some are the best parents yet get no respect.
