Sweet Karma

I'm sure everyone is familiar with the story Ugly Duckling,
Well this is my interpretation of one of everybody's regret,
You know that one person in school that everybody talked about,
Whether it was chubby or ugly you know the harsh words we shouted out,

Then that person grows older and transforms before your eyes,
Becomes the object of your affection but they don't give you the time,
Well let's call that sweet karma for what goes around comes around,
You didn't take the time then to inject your feelings in a project,

You wanted the already built blueprint that now isn't worth anything,
Poor you feeling neglected by the target of your viciousness,
When all you had to do was motivate that person give them the time of day,
Work out with them in the gym and help them to lose that weight,

Start with nothing from the ground up and build you an estate,
Now the property that you're missing is yours and it's safe,
I'm guilty of it myself I chose feelings over reality,
Lost someone special but I learned to choose better

Learned to see people for what's beyond the exterior,
Because what good are looks if you're bitter, broken, or rude,
What good is a body if you're dumb, privileged, or a fool
If you have no personality or no sense of humor

What is it that you can possess that lasts over time,
Substance over everything that lasts the test of time,
Because when looks run out what are you left with,
It's on to the next and that I can't help s***,

It's life but if you choose better things will work out perfect,
Or it'll be some sweet karma playing all over again.
