drew pulls on the salmon button up his momma insisted on him wearing for what felt like the hundredth time as he watched his small town pass outside the passenger window. "i do wish you would at least have your cousins over, but pizza and games is fun too," momma says in her best optimistic voice as she pulls into the maxx pizza parking lot.
drew smiles as genuine as he can and thanks his momma one more time for understanding and respecting his decision. drew follows momma to a booth in the middle of the room, closest to the arcade room. momma agrees to order while drew plays games until the pizza comes to the table. right as drew gets up, a big group walks through the door and something - someone catches his eye.
abby.
i thought she was still wasnt allowed to do anything big...
"are you gonna go play, baby?" drew sits back down and shakes his head, "no i'll sit here for a while. do you want drinks? i'm gonna go to the bathroom." drew jogs to the bathroom and tries to pull himself together.
it's all fine they probably don't even see you. and if they do they won't care! you're fine! he lies to himself.
drew forces himself back to the booth right as the pizza gets to the table. he sits and eats and talks with momma, but his eyes retreat to the corner booth filled with his bullies. his bullies that are all staring daggers at him. the ones whispering and giggling at him. the ones that make his life a living hell. and when he thought 'the ones' he knew he only meant abby.
