drew pulls his jacket tighter around himself as his boots crunch in the snow along the street from suzy's house. suzy is so weird... but her family is way worse. jeez her mom would not stop staring at me. even when she was cooking...

drew rolls his eyes and sees a redhead walk onto the same street as him, "abby?" she turns around. her scarf is covering her face up to her eyes but her eyes get wide, "oh hey drew! oh you got your cast taken off!" drew laughs, "yeah finally! coach tahti wouldn't let me do anything until i got it off. what are you doing out here?"

abby pulls her scarf down under her chin, "i'm just taking a walk... my parents are fighting a lot." drew nods, "sorry..." abby nods but shrugs, "yeah, oh well. so, it's new year's eve - what are you doing out?" drew smiles and shakes his head, "i was at suzy's house. they're all very weird." abby giggles as she listens to his stories about suzy's dad's vietnam war memorabilia wall and her mother's obsession with staring at drew and suzy's little brother's limited vocabulary consisted of 'no' 'dammit' and 'snow'.

the two of them joke around the way they did in the third grade. the way they both missed. "well, today's the day everyone sets their goals they're gonna give up on in two days - so what's yours?" drew asks abby once the two of them had stopped giggling. abby raises one eyebrow and raises her shoulder, "i guess... less doctors. yeah. less doctors." drew nods uncomfortably. drew hated when abby was in the hospital. she looked so small and fragile under that hospital blanket.

"what about you drew? what's your goal you'll give up on tomorrow?" abby grins and elbows him in the arm. "I want - need - to get higher math and science grades. I mean if i'm ever actually gonna get a job at nasa." abby giggles, "ahh its like were nine years old again!"
