"-and since it's the last day of eight school - we're having a grade wide picnic! so everyone sit at a table and we'll call up each table at a time to come and eat," the vice-principal shouts over the eighth grade chatter.
suzy takes drews hand and drags him to their usual cafeteria table, "henry come on! stop talking to kaiden!" henry's cheeks get rosy red with embarrassment, "talk to you later kaiden. maybe come over to my house later?"
drew and suzy see henry sit back down with a goofy grin and shoves a paper into his pocket, "i made a new friend." suzy rolls her eyes, "what, we're not good enough?" henry frowns and shakes his head, "oh whatever, you're gonna be in maine all summer. what good are friends when they aren't around?"
drew nods, "good point." they continue talking about their summer plans while different tables get called out. henry's eyes brighten, "hey trevor! what's up!" trevor smiles but leans over and whispers into drews ear, "abby told you to go to the bathroom in one minute. she'll find you. don't tell suzy or henry."
drews heart skips a beat, "okay. bye trevor." he smiles and walks back to oliver who's watching intensely. suzy nudges his shoulder, "well, what'd he say?" drew scrambles to think of something. he blurts out, "trevor has a crush on henry."
henry's cheeks get bright red and eyes widen, "what!" drew shakes his head, "i don't know. that's what i heard. i have to pee, i'm gonna go to the bathroom."
drew leaves his two shocked friends and heads to the boys bathroom. he looks around and whispers, "abby!" several times. abby waves from the band room door and signals for him to come.
drew runs to the room and sees it's empty abby puts her finger over her lips and points to the back office where mr. noreen sits, his back to them. they run to the other side of the room and slip into the multi-purpose room.
"i'm so glad you came! cause we're gonna have fun," abby says as she grabs drews hand and pulls him onto the stage. they serve through the backstage props to the very center of the stage. "what are we gonna do abby?" drew asks, unable to control his smile.
abby stops and turns them around to look at the stage's blue backdrop, "we, my friend, are making WSMS history!" abby hands drew the thickest sharpie he'd ever seen and says, "really we're just vandalizing our names on a backdrop, but i like dramatic things. if you didn't already know."
drew snorts, "oh yeah i know." the two of them write their nicknames and planets on opposite ends of the background then draw a line connecting the planets and add two lumps to look like a bow.
they put their arms around each other's shoulders to study their art work. "i think we've done good, matey!" abby decides, looking to drew for confirmation. drew nods once, "i do believe so, abigail."
"hey! not fair andrew!" she shouts. they laugh and untangle arms before walking back to the cafeteria.
abby stops drew before walking all the way to the tables. "i'll see you around, andrew," she holds both his hands then pulls him in for a hug. she sighs in his ear, then lets go. she lets go and turns to run, "call me if you want to go to the pool one day!" abby shouts as she runs to olly and trevor. drew nods and puts up a thumb as he takes his seat next to suzy again.
the two of them stare at drew and begin to say something, but get cut off by the teacher yelling for their table to get their food.
