"is it just me or does the last day of school seem late?" henry asks, kicking a rock as he walks alongside drew. drew nods, "most definitely." the two of them walk down the sidewalk to the gym. they turn the corner and stop when they see two of the most popular kids in the 6th grade - abby and alex.
drew grabs henrys shirt and pulls him to the side to hide behind the open bathroom door. "why are we hiding?" henry whispers, his shirt still in drew's fists. drew shakes his head, "if they see us they'll stop talking - i wanna hear what they're saying."
henry giggles and joins in next to him with his now crinkled shirt. "alex, no - i don't want to. that dance is stupid. and anyway, you only want to rub it in drew's face." alex shakes his head, "no! i don't care about that stupid black kid! i just want to go to the dance! jeez abby, you're so annoying!"
abby crosses her arms, "don't be a dick to drew cuz you want to. he's never done anything to you. you know what? i'm breaking up with you." abby starts to walk away but alex grabs her arm, "if you break up with me, i'll tell everyone i broke up with you because you're gay!"
abby stops and rubs her eyes, "i don't - i don't care alex. screw you." abby walks to her next class leaving alex to kick the gate a few times and walk to his class.
"jeez. uh... how do alex and abby know you so well?"
