Mugman's POV
The Devil stood, yelling at me,"You have the nerve to come here!?"
King Dice glared,"Do you have any idea what we are about to do to you? It's not pleasant."
"I understand you're mad, and that's completely fair," I said, brushing away their threats.
"Mad? I'm FURIOUS! You've ruined everything I've worked hard for!" The Devil roared, his voice more demonic than it was a second ago.
"Just-just listen," I tried to stay calm, although it was clearly visible that I was scared to death. My face was pale(er), my legs were trembling, and my hands were shaking. Still, I stood as tall as I could manage and stared them straight in the eye. "I-I didn't come here to f-fight."
He slouched back down, staring at me, angry but clearly curious. He spat,"Then what are you here to do?"
I swallowed hard,"I came to talk. I want to help."
King Dice raised a brow,"Why would you want to help us?"
"I believe that everyone has a good side to them, including the two of you," I stood a bit taller.
"Uh, hello? I'm the Devil! I'm the exact opposite of good! And Kingy here is just as evil as I am, so what makes you think we have a good side?" The Devil exclaimed, bewildered by my outrageous offer.
"You two love each other!" I announced my proof. They blushed hard and looked at each other.
"Wha-him!?" They pointed to one another.
I nodded,"Mm-hmm."
They began to stutter and speak incoherently, as they struggled to defend their case. They said things like "Me? With KD? That's-that's ridiculous!" and "The Boss would never date me! I'm not well-rounded enough!"
I raised a brow at them, not fooled by their denial. Finally, their bickering slowed to a stop.
The Devil sighed,"Okay, so if I liked King Dice-which I'm not saying I am-what would it have to do with us being good?"
I smiled,"Love's a good thing! Everyone feels loved! And it's a good step forward, to be honest."
"A good step forward to what?" King Dice wondered, his face still light purple.
"Being a model citizen! Hear me out-I know that this is strange, but if you were better people, everyone else would enjoy you more! Wouldn't it be nice?" I scrunched my shoulders, nervous for their answer, but I still smiled awkwardly.
They glanced at each other, as if they were reading each other's minds. I stood anxiously waiting for a response. They stared at me again.
The Devil cleared his throat,"Mugface?"
"Mugman," I corrected him. He gave me a look. I gulped,"Continue."
They looked at one another again, until they turned to me. King Dice answered,"We accept your offer."
"Huh?" I said, not believing my (non-existing) ears.
King Dice repeated himself. I couldn't believe this. It actually worked!
The Devil sighed,"Look, kid. If you think it'll help us, then we'll try it. Just don't try any funny business, or else."
I nodded quickly with a silent sigh of relief. I smiled politely,"You won't regret it. I promise."Cuphead's POV
"What happened? What's going on? Why'd he leave?" The crowd murmured as I returned to the party.
Elder Kettle approached me,"Cuphead? Where's Mugman? Why is gone?"
I raised my head a little, my face darkened by shadows,"He's gone."
"What!?" He gasped.
"He ran off towards the Devil's Casino, he blocked the entrance, I couldn't get to him in time! I'm-I'm so sorry..." I explained, lowering my head.
Everyone exclaimed, each reacting differently, as Elder Kettle just starred at me in disbelief. We were all confused by what happened. "Did he betray us?"someone asked. "Has he been working for the Devil?" another wondered. "Will Cuphead betray us too?" one person questioned. Their words meant nothing to me.
I clenched my fists tightly, What did that damn Devil do to Mugman!? I grit my teeth at the thought of the Devil hurting Mug.No matter what, I will get him back.
