King Dice's POV

If we were still enemies, we'd find his sobs annoying. However, were not, therefore we found them pitiful. Mugman was a sweet, innocent child who didn't deserve all of this pain. I remember the excitement he had this morning; it was is 8th birthday, and all he wanted was to see his family again. Instead, the entire town, including his older brother, tried to kill him and his grandfather took the fall. Poor Mug was broken to bits.
The Devil held the small child close as Mug cried. Through his tears were fits of hiccups and nonsense.
"He's...he can't be...no..." Mug cried, hugging the Devil. He hugged back, whispering sweet nothings to him. After an hour, Mug's weeping slowed to a stop. He fell asleep.
I sat on the throne's arm and sighed, "Dev...what do we do?"
The Devil replied,"I...don't know, Dice. But we have to do something for him; to cheer him up."
"Easy, Dev. I want to help him as much as you do, but his family is gone. We need to give him some time," I explained, flattening the fur rising on the nape of his neck.
"Okay..." he murmured.

And that's what we did.
We gave Mug time.

Time to heal...

Time to move on...

Time to...

remember...

We gave him as long as he needed. We waited a month, fixing the casino as the days went by.
Mug never said a word.

At least... to me.

Devil, on the other hand....

Well, I'll let him explain.

The Devil's POV

Mug never said a word to me either, until the end of November and the start of winter. Snow had not fallen yet, but we knew it would come. I was sitting outside, leaning against the cave's entrance. My fur protected me from the cold, but I still felt a chill.
That's when Mug stepped out.
He was wearing a blue coat and a striped scarf that was slightly big on him. He stared into the distance. I glanced at him, but decided it would be better not to say anything. Poor kid...
"I remember when Cuphead and I first went sleigh riding," Mug whispered. I listened. "We went to the junkyard, it was covered in snow. Cup carried our sleds to the top of the highest hill and jumped down on his own.
"I was standing up there. I might've been 5. Cup was calling to me 'C'mon Mug! I know you can do it!' And I listened. I hopped on my sled and pushed myself down the slope. I fell off it.
"I began to cry, not because I was hurt, but because my sled snapped in half. Cup, didn't get mad like I thought he would. Instead, he smiled and said 'Don't worry about it! You can ride with me!' And for the rest of the day, the two of us played in the snow."
I smiled softly,"It sounds like fun."
He nodded, a small grin appearing on his face,"It was. I wish I could do it again."
"You know, I've never been sleigh riding before."
"Really?" He looked at me.
"Maybe you can show me sometime," I said.
He smiled, and turned to the sky,"Yeah..."

It began to snow.
