Day and Night

Chapter 37

Lukas looks down at his hands before running out of the castle. He whistles and a beautiful chocolate colored horse trots over to him. Lukas gets on his back, "To the night kingdom." He says and the horse hesitantly nods and runs into the forest. Lukas holds on tightly, keeping an eye out for Jesse and her night terror. As Lukas and his horse ride father, he sees hoof tracks on the ground. Lukas watches them, before noticing that these are the night terrors hoof prints. "Follow these, bud." He whispers in the horses ear. The horse looks at the prints before slowly following them but soon he follows them faster and faster until he is all out sprinting. Lukas holds on tight, to avoid falling off.

After ten minutes of riding, Lukas starts to see a figure riding a horse in the distance. He breathes, "Jesse?" The figure yelps in fear before falling off their horse. Lukas looks at them. It was Jesse. The night terror runs off, out of fear and Jesse groans. "No! Come back!" She glares at Lukas. He chuckles and laughs before getting off of his horse and reaching his hand out to her, "You okay?" He keeps laughing. "You scared me and my night terror!" Jesse grabs his hand but instead of accepting his help, she pulls him down with her. "ACK!" He gasps and falls on top of her. She laughs then they both realize how close their faces are to each others. Lukas breathes and fights the urge to kiss her. Jesse looks down, "I thought this 'getting the book to help the day kingdom' idea was stupid..." She whispers. Lukas grabs her face. "Jesse, I said that out of worry and anger! The idea... it is not stupid but it could possibly be a suicide mission and... thats why I came. I was worried and I would not let you go at this alone..." He rests his forehead on hers. "Lukas..." "Jesse, when I asked you to become I queen and you said yes, I promised myself that I would never EVER let anything or anyone hurt you again. I love you, Jesse. I love you so much and I can't lose you..." He slowly starts to stand up, with a glimpse of sadness in his eyes. Jesse pulls him back down and grabs the collar of his shirt, "Who said you were gonna lose me?" She asks before locking her lips with his. Lukas turns red before grabbing Jesses face. They kiss for about a minute then Jesse pulls away, "No matter what, you never will lose me, Lukas... I promise." She gives him a reassuring smile as he gets up then he helps her up. As he gets on his horse, Jesse closes her eyes and breathes. "We need to talk... when we get back ho.... to the day kingdom." She gets on, behind Lukas and wraps her arms around him. "Jesse, the day kingdom is your home now." He puts one hand on hers. "Thats where your wrong, Lukas." "Huh?" "Where ever you are, I am home."

Luna growls and walks around the library with Petra. Shira follows close behind. "Jesse has interfered with my plans FAR to many times! Shira!" Luna yells. "Yes, my Queen?" Shira walks up to her side. "Be sure Jadie is Ready and keep a look out with Clementine as she leaves. We can not risk Anything." Luna growls loudly. Shira goes to say something against it but then gulps. "Yes ma'am!" She grabs her sword and runs off.
"Now, Petra. We must talk." Luna says, as Lukas and Jesse sneak in through a window.
"About what, my queen?" Petra pulls her hair into a ponytail as he eyes scan for a certain book.
"Remember how I said you were like a daughter to me?" Luna says with a smile. Jesse sneaks over to a certain shelf and Lukas follows behind.
"Yes, my queen." Petra grabs a book about fighting. Jesse grabs a book and looks at it before nodding to Lukas. He goes to grab the book.
"Lately I've been thinking. I don't want that stupid little monstrous brat to be the heir to the night kingdom." Luna says as she lets out a loud sigh. Jesse freezes up and drops the book but Lukas swiftly catches it.
"What? Stupid?! Monstrous?!" Petra drops the book and gasps.
"Jesse joined those days just recently AND she killed her father when she was a kid." Luna growls. Her eyes turn black and purple. Jesse felt her heart drop. She wanted to yell, scream and tell her mother the truth. Lukas hugs her tightly then picks her up. Petra goes to say something but she gets interrupted but a long and long... Creak... sound. Lukas bites his lip before darting out the window with the book, and Jesse in his arms. Luna runs to the window and sees Lukas and Jesse on the ground. Jesse looks dazed and out of it while Lukas looks frazzled and confused. "GUARDS!" Luna yells loudly. Lukas snaps out of his confusion as the night queen says that. "Jesse, come on! We gotta go!" He grabs Jesses arms while Jesse holds onto the book. She would not let go no matter what. Lukas helps her on his horse and he quickly gets on as they both hear loud foot steps. As one guard as seen, the horse runs off, with Lukas and Jesse on its back.

"Jesse, you okay?" Lukas holds onto the horses saddle as he looks back at her.
"..." Jesse keeps holding onto the book and breathes.
"Jesse?" Lukas bites his lip.
Jesse takes a deep breathe, "I don't care how long it will take... When Luna attacks, we will all be ready and she will be the first night to fall."
"Jesse what are you saying?" Lukas gasps.
"Luna will be the first night to fall."
"So, your gonna kill your mom?!"
"If it means protecting you guys, and saving the night kingdom from that monster, then yes."
"Jesse, Luna still is your mother." Lukas sighs, deeply.
"...Not anymore..."
"Jesse..."
