Flashback

Can't believe I'm paired up with Roman for this stupid project. I already know what's going to happen; I'm gonna get to his place and do all the work. I don't know even why I'm heading to his place. I should have just done the work at home and not put his name on it.

"I have a meeting at the office, so I won't be able to pick you up for at least two hours...two and a half at most," Uncle Cam said as he drove.

I sighed. "Great," I said with no feeling. "Two and a half hours with that prick."

"Come on, Lee, it might not be that bad." I raised my eyebrow at him. "Ok, if the guy isn't dead by the time I pick you up then...we'll go get ice cream for breakfast." I scoffed. "Fine. Fine. Fine. I'll give you $30 to spend on whatever you want."

I smiled. "Deal."

"Thank you."

"But you said nothing about scratching his eyes out."

Uncle Cam sighed before we pulled into Roman's driveway. My mouth flew open at the size of his house. This place is gigantic. I could tell Uncle Cam was shocked too by the way his eyes scanned the place.

"Does his mom sell blood or something?" He joked. I sighed as I adjusted my backpack. I got out and closed the car door behind me. Cam called me back. "Remember, you don't have to like the kid, but just try to be nice."

"Only for you, Uncle Cam."

He cocked his head to the side."Come on, Lee. Let me see you smile. Show me a smile." I rolled my eyes, but smiled anyway. "There you go."

I chuckled. "You're so weird."

"I'm your uncle and being weird embarrasses you, which proves to me that I'm doing my job right." I shook my head before grabbing my pencil and tossing it at him. Cam ducked out of the way and laughed. "I'm going. I'm going."

I nodded in amusement. "Yeah, wouldn't want you to be late."

Cam waved at me one last time before he drove off. I sighed as I adjusted my bag and walked up to the door. Let's just get this over with.

I rang the bell and waited. Soon this woman with dark hair and dark eyes came to the door. She wore one of those fancy dresses you see in catalogues.

"May I help you?" She asked as she scans me.

"Umm," I started. "I'm Lyanna Brekker. I go to your school with your son. Is he here?" Please say no.

The woman nodded. "Yes, Roman mentioned his partner coming over." She quickly gave me another once over, her icy stare making me want to run. "You not all how Roman describes you."

She let's me inside. If I thought the outside is huge, the inside is...wow.

"Let me guess, short and annoying? Weird?" I said.

"Please forgive me for Roman's manners." She pulled out a carton of cigarettes. "Do you mind?"

I shrugged. "Your house."

She gave me a little chuckle before she took a puff. "Forgive me. I'm Olivia, Roman's mother."

"I never would have guessed. You're so much prettier than him."

She smiled at my comment before Roman decided to walk down the stairs. He rolled my eyes when he saw me.

"What are you doing here, Oompa Loompa?" He asked.
