I made my way down the hallway of this stupid school, with Amber and Sophie as Sophie complain about her 3rd period teacher.

I was not even focused on their conversation, however, I was more focused on the conversation between William and the principal, they stood close, and looked like they were discussing something very upsetting to William.

I wasn't good a reading lips.
I could tell if William was saying, "not a chance", or "not at the dance".

"You seemed to be distracted? What's on your mind girly?", Sophie asked.
I quickly looked away from William, bringing my attention to my locker.

"Nothing.", I said.
"She's lying", Amber said.
"I'm fine", I said.

"Mhm. Whatever", Sophie said not buying it.
I opened my locker.
"3 o clock.", Amber said looking over my shoulder to Sophie.

"What's going on at 3 o clock?", I asked in confusion, closing my locker, as I turned to see William walked towards me.

Sophie and Amber walked off, leaving William and I.

I smiled.
"Hey", he said with a greeting smile.
"Hi", I said looking over his shoulder to see the principal walking back into his office.

"I'm thinking lunch.. off campus?", He asked.
I simply ignored his idea.

"What was that with the principal and you?", I asked.
"Oh that?", He asked looking back and then back to me.

"It was nothing. Just a little disagreement.", He said.
"About what?", I asked.
"What's with all the questions?", He asked.

"I just want to know what's bothering you", I said.
"Remember the ceremony I was talking to you about last night?", He asked.

I nodded waiting for him to finish.
"Well, I have to say this speech, in front of hundreds of wealthy families, and people. Its a tradition my family has to continue on doing.", He said.

"I'm sure you'll be fine. Just- he cut me off, "it's not that", he said.

"Then what is it?", I asked.
"Apparently, The Council doesn't approve of us", he said.

I arched my eyebrow, in confusion.
So. Not everyone is going to like an interracial couple.

"Because I'm black?", I asked.
"No.", He said.
"Then?", I asked.

"They think... I should bring with me, someone with wealth", he said.
"Oh", I said.

"And instead of you, I have to take Anne. If I don't... I'd lose my position for headmaster", he said.

"Oh", I said.
That's all I could say. Even though I wanted to say much more then that. Those basters.

"I won't go if you don't - I cut him off, "are you insane?", I asked.

He looked at me in confusion.
"You have to go. Your headmasters remember? So if that's means we'd have to be separated for the night, that's fine", I said.

"Are you sure?", He asked.
"William. I'm sure, okay.", I said.
"But- I cut him off, "no butts. You're going to the ceremony with Anne, and you will say the most powerful, and inspirational speech, Oakham has ever heard.", I said.

He slowly grabbed my hand.
"I love you", he said.

I hope he remembers that, tonight.

"I know. And to make it up to me. You're taking me out for lunch", I said.
