A Princess

Music fills the air

Laughter among the people as the party commences, drinks and dances

Silence fills the air for some

Locked away, forever to never have fun

Hands behind bars, shackles on ankles, arms and necks

A jail cell is where they keep me

Holed up in an area

As if that would help, my powers control me and my actions

It can't be helped

My life is in the hands of others

If I live or I die

It will be on them

My family has left me

No one will visit

For they are ashamed to have a witch as their daughter

No heir for their throne

As I am locked away

Here to rot and wither until my time is up

Their voices echo in my head

Why, they say, why would you do this to yourself and your life

Be patient, be pretty, be stupid and useless so we can sell you off to the highest bidder

How I feel doesn't matter

I am only a pawn in the game we call life

If I die I can be replaced but hopefully I will inspire others to take a stand

The life of a princess means nothing if she doesn't have control

Being wed to someone you'll never know

Forced to have a heir, no one will understand how a princess feels
