Safe At Last

Flames light up the night sky

Screams of fear and terror ring out

Burning bright

A little girl

Trapped and all alone

A woman coughing and crying

Her daughter, still inside

Water is thrown but does no help

Smoke fills the sky

A brave soldier runs in

There she lay, alone in a corner

The flames spread and widen

In his arms she lay

Running swifty and softly as he goes

A leap he takes for safety

On the ground they lay

Relief fills faces

Safety at last

The fire burning bright slowly dims

No more fuel for its fury

Sobs of reunion fill the air

The soldier had done his job
