eight months later
julian slowly creeps into the room but accidentally trips on one of the cords lying on the floor.
"shit sorry," he looks over to the previously sleeping mia whose head is lying on the edge of sean's hospital bed. "did i wake you?"
"yeah," she rubs her eyes and starts to straighten herself out. "but it's alright, what time is it?"
julian lifts his arm to look at his watch and replies, "3:45. did you sleep late?"
"i didn't at all, as per usual," she shrugs and sinks herself into the couch while still keeping her eyes locked on sean.
the heart monitor continues to sound off.
"how about we go somewhere today?" julian clears his throat. "i'm starting to feel suffocated after only seeing these same four walls for the past eight months."
"but what if he wakes up?" her eyes flicker over to sean then to julian.
"mia..."
"...i guess you're right,"
"come on," he extends his hand out for mia to pull herself up. "i have tickets for something i think you'd want to see."
she raises her eyebrow and questions, "and that is?"
"you remember that day sean asked you to be the muse of his video?" he asks as he starts to call for an uber.
she nods.
"the film festival's today," he pulls the tickets out of his back pocket.
"oh," her eyes widen as she stares at the tickets in front of her. "it's here, in california? not new york?"
"here," julian responds. "sean always entered the california festivals. his mom always brought him to them back in high school."
"he never did tell me what is was about," mia realizes while she watches the cars pass by them.
"he usually never tells; wants it to be a surprise,"
the uber honks in front of them, bringing them back to reality. julian opens the door for mia, and they both go in.
mia stares at the hospital's view getting farther and farther away as they drive off. it's one of the very few times she's ever left since she first arrived in january, and it pains her a little knowing sean wouldn't be leaving there with them.
