a few weeks later
"jesus christ, mia!" julian snaps as he bursts out of the exit of their apartment complex, mia chasing after him.
"julian, please," she croaks, watching him angrily get into his car. "where are you going?"
"one of my friend's place or something - i don't know," he doesn't bother looking at her as he starts the engine. "i just need to get away from... from all of this, just for a night, okay?"
he drives off without waiting for a response, leaving mia standing in the freezing cold as she watches the car go further and further.
from across the road, sean sinks even lower into the driver's seat of his car to avoid being seen. he'd seen the entire fight unravel and was starting to contemplate whether or not this was a good time to speak to her.
now, he hadn't seen mia since he abruptly quit his internship a few weeks ago. he wasn't on planning on seeing her anytime soon after that. new york was a crowded city, and he felt pretty positive that if they did run into each other again (which at the time, god forbid), he thought it'd be in another couple of years at some random grocery store.
however, a call he received a couple of hours ago had changed his mind completely.
he snaps out of his thoughts and takes another peek outside to see mia sitting down on the curb with her face buried into her hands.
"fuck," sean curses to himself, getting a feeling he was going to regret getting out of his car. he takes his keys out and steps outside into the 11:30 at night numbing cold.
once he's reached the other side of the street, he stands in front of mia who still hasn't noticed his presence.
"mia?" he says softly. "are you alright?"
she quickly wipes her eyes and nose with the sleeve of her sweater and looks up at the boy towering over her.
"sean? what are you doing here?" she sniffles.
"i, uh, i came to see you," he says, awkwardly shifting his weight.
"why–" she starts to cough and shiver.
sean immediately takes off his jacket and wraps it around her and helps her stand up while saying, "let's go inside first, i don't want you to get sick."
she's about to protest but instead she nods as he walks with her inside the apartment.
when they get inside mia and julian's apartment, sean heads off to the room and and grabs a blanket. he returns with it and wraps it around mia as they sit on the couch.
