about an hour later, julian knocks on sean's apartment door.
"come in!" sean yells from the couch, too lazy to get up to answer the door.
julian walks in with a camera dangling from his neck by the straps and a bouquet of sunflowers in his hands. he snaps a candid picture of sean stuffing chips into his mouth.
"delete that!" sean groans.
"no can do," julian shrugs and proceeds him plop himself onto the sofa besides sean.
"mia's favorite flowers are sunflowers," sean points out, motioning towards the bouquet that julian set on the coffee table.
"yeah, i know," julian winks, earning a confused look from sean.
"whatever," sean shakes head. "so, how much are the carnival tick-"
sean cuts his sentence short as mia walks out of the bathroom, making him completely forget what he was saying.
"mia! you look nice, doesn't she, sean?" julian smiles, nudging sean's arm a little too hard.
"y-yeah," he stutters. "y-you look great."
mia looks down and smiles, tucking her hair behind her ear.
sean turns over to julian, rubbing his arm, "that hurt by the way."
"good!" julian stands up abruptly and starts walking to the door, but before he reaches it he turns back around. "oh, mia... sean got you those flowers over there!"
sean immediately shoots julian a death glare, but julian flashes a smile back before he walks out to the hallway.
"oh," she can feel her cheeks burn red. "thank you, they're my favorite."
"i know," sean says, rubbing the back of his neck. "let's go, uh, julian's probably waiting."
"right," she nods, heading towards the door.
sean trails after, locking the door behind them. he catches up with julian and mia at the elevator, still extremely grateful that it's no longer out of service. he shakes away the exaggerated traumatic memories of him walking up and down the nine flights of stairs from a few months ago, just around the time when he first met mia.
the elevator doors open and they enter, greeted by the annoyingly cheery elevator music.
"are you sure i can do this?" julian says, staring down at the five year countdown ticking away at his wrist. "she's not the one, and five years isn't that long of a wait anyways..."
"five years is a long time," mia frowns, placing her hand on julian's shoulder. "you shouldn't have to put your whole life on pause while waiting."
"yeah man, you should learn to have some fun with other people," sean agrees. "live a little."
"easy for you to say," julian rolls his eyes, hinting at sean's past flings, most recently being cass. sean glares at julian but brushes it away.
