"...thank you for saving me,"
"why the hell were you even there anyways?" sean runs his hands through his hair. "who was that?"
"well.." mia pauses awkwardly, shifting her weight. "he was the guy that i was supposed to have that blind date with on that day we met."
"you were on a date?!" sean says in shock.
mia nods.
"what the hell were you on a date for?!" he says even louder, and mia's partially grateful that no one else was on that sidewalk but partially resentful at the same time because it was past midnight in the middle of a random neighborhood.
"why do you even care sean?"
"trust me, i don't," he scoffs.
"if you don't care why were you even here tonight? why did you save me? how did you know where to find me?"
sean clenches his jaw and looks at the ground.
"is someone jealous?" mia teases, taking a step closer to sean. "if it makes you uncomfortable, just tell me. i didn't even want to go on this date in the first place."
"why did you then?"
"i don't get you, sean." mia rolls her eyes. "you say that you hate all that 'soulmate' bullshit, act like you don't give a damn about anyone, an-"
"that doesn't mean you can go fucking the next guy that walks past you!" he cuts mia off.
"excuse me?" mia stares at sean in disbelief. "hard to believe coming from a guy who had a girlfriend when we met! i don't even know how many you had before that..."
"whatever, fine!" he yells, throwing his hands in the air. "date whoever the fuck you want! i don't give a shit!"
"jesus christ," mia curses under her breath, taking a few steps away from sean in the other direction. "how could my soulmate be such a heartless prick?"
"heartless?" he repeats in a louder voice. "heartless, really? i just saved your ass!"
"yeah," mia snaps. "but maybe you shouldn't have."
"you're unbelievable," he mumbles.
"you know what, sean?" she turns to face him. "if you don't want me in your life, just say it!"
she stares at him with her arms crossed, waiting for a response.
he remained silent for a moment, looking away from her. he gulped, and just as he was about to open his mouth, mia shook her head.
"fine, i get it," she says to him. "you never even wanted me in your life anyways... goodbye, sean."
mia turns away and starts walking in the other direction.
sean looks back at her and starts to walk after her. he calls out to her, "where are you going?!"
"i don't know!" she yells without turning back to him. "wherever the hell i can get away from you!"
as he starts to walk even faster, he misses his chance when a taxi pulls up out of nowhere and mia immediately enters.

mia reaches the apartment before sean, and she instantly heads for the bathroom. she starts grabbing any of her belongings that she could find, stuffing it into a random plastic bag. she then heads over to the living room where she messily grabs all of the clothes she could find and throws it into the one suitcase she brought with her.
she takes in one last look at the apartment then shuts the door, not knowing where the hell she was headed to.
she walks down the corridor, passing by julian's apartment. for a moment, she contemplates knocking on his door but that would have only made her want to stay and look over what happened as just another one of sean's moods.
she keeps walking, and enters the elevator. she takes her phone out of her pocket and stares at her contact list.
she attempts at calling maddie, but when her third call goes straight to voicemail again, she gives up.
she looks at her contact list another time. she takes a deep breath, then presses call on the last person she ever thought she'd have to call.
-
sean stares at the taxi cab drive off into the distant, silently cursing to himself.
he frantically runs his hands through his hair again and kicks a random rock off the sidewalk. he quietly trudges himself back to where he parked his car near the nightclub.
thirty minutes later, when he's finally back into his car, he rests his forehead on the steering wheel.
he gets a glimpse of the clock to see it's almost three in the morning, and he starts slamming his fists on the steering wheel repeatedly.
"what is wrong with you?" he screams to himself, still slamming onto the wheel. "why do you always have to go and fuck things up for yourself?"
he looks up to himself in the rearview mirror and is greeted by his bloodshot eyes and awful appearance.
"i wish you were still here," he mutters. "then things wouldn't have gone the way they did."
he stops himself from pounding on the wheel even more and closes his eyes, sinking himself into his seat.
"i do need you in my life," he whispers quietly with his eyes still closed. "i do."
