No one had anticipated losing to Rose Quartz. She had proven herself a worthy foe beyond even The Diamonds predictions. Everything went wrong and the Homeworld troops were in total retreat. A moment of lull between the two forces was the only opportunity of rest.

Tanzenite, being a robust and hardy Gem, needed only a moment to recover. Instead she watched over Jasper, like ordered. The two sat in heavy silence. Jasper couldn't believe that she was outwitted. All of her fighting, all was for nothing and she felt as low as low could be.

"They'll shatter us all..." She said woefully. Tanzenite perked up and turned her head to look at her.
"We lost... we lost and that's it for us. Tanzenite stood up and moved closer to her. She put her hands on Jasper's warm face and smiled gently.
"No." She said as calm as the night sky above.
"There's still one more fight, one last chance." Jasper's eyes grew wide. She grabbed Tanzenite's hands and sat up a bit.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that they haven't taken out our leader yet, in order to free this planet they have to go after Pink Diamond... if we get there before they do then-" Jasper shot up and clasped Tanzenite's face toghtly in her hands.
"THAT'S IT, TANZY YOU'RE A GENIUS!" Tanzenite blinked as Jasper squished her face.
"Wh-wht?" She mumbled.
"We just need to guard Pink Diamond!" Tazenite felt her chest tighten. An aprehension she didn't know she could feel. The happiness Jasper had on her face when she mentioned her Diamond's name. How could she compare to a Diamond? She felt her shoulders slump. She sighed and grinned.
"Of course, My Jasper!" Jasper smiled and lifted her into her arms and set her on her shoulder. She smiled, she felt weightless in her arms. Her shoulders relaxed and she started to laugh. Jasper's cheeks turned bright orange hearing Tanzenite's laugh. Tanzenite placed a gentle hand on Jasper's, which was holding onto her legs, Jasper looked up at her and saw her smiling sweetly. She wasn't looking at her anymore. She was looking at the sky. Her eyes has stars in them. Reflected perfectly off of the night sky. She stopped and set Tanzenite down. Confused, she looked up at Jasper. Jasper simply smiled and offered a hand to her. Tanzenite laughed and took her hand and bowed.
"My Jasper." Jasper laughed in her throat like she usually did when she was flustered. Jasper pulled Tanzenite close and started to sort of dance with her.
"What are you... doing?" Tanzenite asked, following Jasper's steps as best she could.
"I saw some humans doing this.... thought id... you know... try it out." Tanzenite felt her cheeks turn hot.
"I... like it." Jasper made a sideways smile and started to move faster. She twirled Tanzenite gracefully. The two looked like ribbons floating through the air.
Soon they were laughing and spinning over and over again, the two moved along an undetermined path until Tanzenite it tripped over a rock. She gasped, ripping herself out of her trance. Jasper worried suddenly she'd hurt her gem when she fell and caught her just in the knick of time. The two stared at each other with blush on their cheeks. A light between them went unnoticed. They laughed as it enveloped them they felt hot for only a second and suddenly they felt tall, very tall.

They laughed, but their voices weren't their own. They suddenly gasped and looked down at their hands, their... hand?
"Wait.. what..... is this?" The voice they shared asked no one. They looked down at their feet and saw they still had two legs, two arms, they could each see perfectly. Her skin was almost translucent with a green hue with dark veins of blue and orange and black running every which way. They thought they looked beautiful like this.
"Who... am I?" She asked raising her hands to the sky.
She gasped as a mix of horror and excitement flowed through her body and she felt an odd pain in her chest. She winced and vanished and the two reappeared to each other. They were separate.

For a while they said nothing, they just stared at each other. Jasper looked horror stricken, bit it could have easily been mistaken as excitement as well. Tanzenite just looked confused and frightened as she gripped her gem where her chest hurt within the being. She checked to see if it had cracked more, and to much relief, it hadn't. Jasper moved closer to her, knowing she was worried about it.
"Here.. let me look." Tanzenite lowered her top just enough to show the square gem. The fissure running directly through the middle hadn't seemed to grow, but something hurt her.
"Did we..." She started to asked.
"Yes, but we can't tell anyone, you remember what happened the last time?" Tanzenite nodded. She'd heard that a Ruby had fused with a Sapphire of Blue Diamond's court, and that they fled and joined the rebellion. She hadn't fought them personally, but she knew they were a fierce warrior.
"Yes... I remember."
"Good then we can't talk about it, not ever again." Tanzenite heard her mouth speak aloud what her mind was thinking.
"But we can do it again? So long as no one else sees?" Jasper sighed and clasped her hands tightly. She was silent for a long moment.
"Tanzy I..." Jasper thought of how big they were, what it felt like to be one being, she could hear and feel everything Tanzenite could and she loved that.
"No... you're right, it's too risky. We'd inevitably get caught, I won't risk you like that, forget I even asked." Tanzenite let go of Jasper's hands and turned to walk away. Jasper reached out for her. She felt like she'd lost a piece of herself. It made her feel awful.
"Tanzenite! Stop!" She obeyed and turned to look at her.
"Where are you going?"
She smiled and bowed slightly.
"We're going to guard Pink Diamond, it was where we going anyways." She turned and kept walking.

No one suspected what happened next. No one suspected that Rose Quartz would come out of nowhere and destroy her. Tanzenite remembered seeing everything happen so fast, her whole life flew past her in flashes. She was marked a traitor, was ordered to be shattered, Jasper bringing her to earth and destroying her form and waking up with nothing. There was only darkness when she returned, the only clear thought was that Jasper existed and she knew it.
She didn't remember the war, or anything, just bits and pieces she threw her hands against her head and screamed into the heavens, for anyone to hear. Her body was hurting and no amount of screaming could cure it now.
