Third person POV
Dom dom dom ....the sound of someone pounding filled the room. ooohh I was dreaming about something nice.. Lara thought to herself as her sleep was cut short by the sound.
She stood up from her wooden bed and went out of her room to kitchen to find her grandma cooking.
“hmhmmm wetin u de cook grandma ”(hmhmmm what are you cooking grandma?) she asked as she moved closer to the stove to have a better view of what was in the pot.
“na ur favorite food.. Vegetable soup and pounded yam I de cook ”(it's your favorite food.. Vegetable soup and pounded yam I'm cooking) said grandma as she continued stirring the soup.
“no wonder I bin de hear dat sound ”(no wonder I was hearing that sound). Lara said as she tried to pinch little of soup to taste “na d noise wake me up sef ”(it was the noise that woke me up)
“yeehh e still hot oo ”(ouch it's still hot) she shouted as the hotness of the soup burnt her fingers while trying to taste it.
She heard her grandma chuckled,she glared at her but her grandma just kept on laughing loudly.
“y u de laff me ”(why are you laughing at me) she said frowning at Grandma. “me? Noo I no laff ”(me? Noo I wasn't laughing) grandma said as she tried covering up her laugh with small cough.
“me wan chop o I de H”(I want to eat o am hungry) she said as she and her grandma started setting the table for them to eat breakfast .After setting the table they sat down and began eating ,half way through the breakfast Lara asked of her grandpa.
“where grandpa iyn never still come back ”(where is grandpa, his still not back?)
“iyn suppose don de rea....”(he's meant to have arri..... ) Grandma reply was not completed as if on cue Lara grandpa walked in .
“èkâ bô”(welcome) grandma greeted in Yoruba language “Lara bin jes de ask wen u go cum bck ”(Lara was just asking when you will be back when you entered) she said.
“we cum bck ealy todai ...u ”(we came back early today...you) he said referring to Lara “y u still de house, u no go go sell ? Na u dem Mike de wait for ”(why are you still ahome, won't you go and sell? You're the one Mike and the rest are waiting for) he said to Lara.
Mike is Lara Best friend on the island. He is an igbo guy from the eastern part of Nigeria but stays in Lagos with his parents until they died five years ago. since then He and Lara have being in-separable .He was 17 and Lara was 16 at that time, now they are 21 and 22years old respectively. They are just like brother and sister.Lara grandparents took him like their grandson and He them.
He works in a Villa on the Big Island so he and Lara mostly leave their own island together and part ways when they get to the Big Island (Banana Island).
“I go soon de go I jes wan chop finish ”(I'm going now, just want to finish eating my food) Lara said to her grandpa.
“jes hurry before de leave u ”(just hurry up so they won't leave you) grandpa said.
“OK I don finish..make I go wear clothes ”(okay am through.. Let me go dress up) she said standing up taking her plate with her to the kitchen to wash not before her grandma stopped her.
“jes drop am I go wash everything later wen I finish ”(just drop it I'll wash everything when am done) said grandma
