ELLIE's POV

I wanted to proudly say that yes, I was with my boyfriend but the look on Señor Valiente's face stopped me from voicing it out. I didn't know why but something in the way he looks at me that made me uncomfortable.

"We weren't informed that you already have a boyfriend" Señor Valiente said with a serious face.

His tone made me scowl at him. I didn't know what I did wrong for him to look at me like that and I didn't like the way he asked me that question. There's something in his tone like he was accusing me of doing something terrible that I wasn't aware of.

"What do you mean by that, Señor Valiente?"

His wife gave him a look before she looked at me while smiling.

"Don't mind this old man, Ellie darling. He's just stressed out lately especially now that we had received a wrong information about what we're looking for for years and it's both stressing us out both. He's always like this if he has a lot of things to think about" Señora Valiente said apologetically.

Her husband's forehead knitted even more. He was about to say something in order to contradict his wife maybe when Señora Valiente interrupted him. She snaked her arm around her husband's arm.

"Anyway, we have to go now, Ellie darling. Much as I want to wait for your boyfriend to return and meet him personally, we can't stay for long. We still have an important meeting to attend to. See you around" I forced a smile because of her friendly tone even if I wasn't comfortable of how Señor Valiente stares at me.

His stare wasn't menacing but it was uncomfortable, enough for me to wonder what it was about.

"I understand. See you both around" I answered politely.

When they left, I couldn't help but to sigh in relief. I didn't know what happened. This was the first time that Señor Valiente acted like that. He was always so friendly. He was the type of a person who smiles a lot even though he looked kinda aristocratic and strict. But now, he looked so different and the way he spoke held a hint of displeasure. Not just that. His tone was indicating me that he was accusing me of something I didn't even know about.

I sighed and shook my head. No. Maybe Señora Valiente was right. Maybe I'm just giving too much meaning to his behavior. I didn't do anything wrong for him to be angry at me.

I was about to follow Rex to the restroom when I saw him walking towards me. He was looking around like he was looking for something but when he noticed me staring at him, he smiled and then quickened his steps.

"Who were you talking to a while ago?" I frowned at him.

"You saw them?" I asked.

"You were looking at the exit a while ago so I figured out that you were with someone a while ago" He said and then shrugged his shoulders. He sat on the chair.

"It was the Valientes. They're my grandfather's friends. They were the ones who came over at the ranch. I think you saw them from afar that time" I answered while staring at him intently. Something flashed through his eyes that I couldn't explain before it disappeared as fast it appeared.

His expression changed. He was suddenly brooding.

"What happened, querido? You're suddenly acting weird" I couldn't help but ask. He stared at me for good three seconds before he heaved a sigh and then held my hand.
