ELLIE's POV

Everything happened so fast. All I could do was to stand there, immobile and shocked. I wanted to believe that everything was just a figment of my imagination or just a nightmare. Before I lose my consciousness, I saw Rex walking towards me, saying something but I didn't hear it because I fainted.

When I regained consciousness, I was already at the hospital. I sat up right away and was about to get out of the bed when someone opened the door and Carlos came in. He has this serious expression on his face.

"How are you feeling, Ellie?" He asked while looking at me intently. I wanted to ask a lot of questions about what happened but I didn't know what I would ask first because I felt like there was a storm in my head and all the words were rushing like a tidal wave hitting the shore, leaving me perplexed. I still felt like I was in daze and I didn't know what to do. I was afraid to know what happened because I might hear something that could potentially break my heart and leave me scarred for the rest of my life.

"I-I'm fine" I answered in an almost inaudible voice, my body was slightly trembling. I clenched my fists tightly.

"Aren't you going to ask me what happened to your grandfather?" I bit my lower lip as I fought the urge to cry. I felt so scared to hear whatever he was about to say.

"What are you doing here?" I asked instead, trying to gather myself together. He pulled a chair and placed it on the right side of the hospital bed then he sat on it. He heaved a sigh as his face became sad.

"I went to the ranch this morning because your grandfather invited me together with mamá and papá to play golf. We're going to leave France again soon so he invited us to play with him for the last time before we leave. I decided to go earlier than mamá and papá because I was planning to talk to Mr. Novell about a business proposal. But when I arrived there, I saw a man talking to your grandfather so I didn't approach them and went to the terrace instead.

"I saw Martine and asked who the visitor was and she told me that his name was Rex. I waited for a couple of minutes because I noticed that they were seriously talking and it might be about something important.

"But after about 5 minutes, I heard their loud voices and it turned out that they were already having an argument. I saw how Rex looked at Mr. Novell like he was going to harm him and I got alarmed. He was livid and looked murderous. Mr. Novell was screaming for him to get out of the house but he didn't leave and he even threatened Mr. Novell so I've decided to call the police.

"But it was too late because when they arrived, he was already shot by that man. I didn't see how he shot him because I went out of the house and waited for the police outside the gate which was a wrong move for me. Even though I wanted to intervene, I couldn't because I was afraid that he might hurt me too. I'm sorry because I couldn't do anything" I bit my lower lip in order to prevent myself from crying but it was too much for me to handle. Tears fell from my eyes and I couldn't even stop them. It hurt a lot! I couldn't believe of what I was hearing!

Carlos reached for my hand and then held it, sending me his concern.

"H-How's my p-papy?" I asked the moment I calmed down a little bit.

"He's still in the operating room" I pulled my hand from him and then got off the bed.

"Where's the operating room? I want to go there" I said determinedly.
