REX's POV

I kept tossing and turning on my bed because I couldn't sleep. Not because of how hard the bed was against my back but because of all pain that I was feeling. Physical pain and emotional pain. I was full of negative thoughts because of not seeing the love of my life since the last time she visited me.

Even though my whole body hurts because of what they did to me, I was trying my very best to remain positive because I knew I still have hope to get out of here. I didn't do any of what they were accusing me of and I knew I could still clear my name. I knew the court will surely be on my side because I am innocent.

I heaved a sigh as the beautiful face of Ellie appeared on my mind again. Our last talk kept on replaying inside my head like a broken record.

"W-Why did you do this to me?" she asked full of resentment while sobbing. I could see the pain in her eyes while she was asking me that and it was tearing my heart.

"Querida, I admit it but believe me when I say that I really loved you. I withdrew from the deal because of my love for you" I tried to explain to her desperately. I held her hand but she pulled it away from me.

"I don't want to hear any more lies!"

"I am not lying. I love you that's why I tried everything I could in order to make everything alright" I said, almost begging her to believe me but her answer almost crushed my heart.

"Is that why you shot my papy?" I shook my head vigorously. I knew I couldn't hide the raw pain that registered on my face but I tried to control my emotions. I need to tell her the truth.

"I didn't do it, querida. I didn't shoot him, please believe me"

"How do you expect me to believe you when all you've been showing me were all lies? You've been deceiving me all along!" she was almost hysterical while still sobbing but she angrily wiped her tears.

"I even saw you holding the gun. You were the only one there aside from papy. They found the missing jewelries inside your pockets and when the police searched inside your place, they found a lot of money inside your room. Can you explain to me all those?! There's a lot of evidence against you. Please, tell me the truth" she cried.

"I am telling you the truth, querida. I didn't do it. Please believe me" I said helplessly. I couldn't help but to get hurt because of what she was telling me. I could feel the hopelessness but I tried not to give up. I need to convince her because I am innocent!

"I've loved you so much...b-but you just stomped on my heart like a rug" I shook my head again while staring at her pleadingly. I grew desperate to make her believe me because the last thing that I wanted was for her to leave me too. She's all I've got and she's the reason why I'm trying my best to stay positive.

"No! That's not true. You know how much I love you. You know that I would never---" I tried to explain but before I could complete my sentence, Regan, Ellie's brother came inside the room and told her that they needed to leave. He looked mad.
