Chapter 16

Facing the Music, Through Sunglasses

"BEEP BEEP BEEP! BEEP BEEP BEEP!" The mechanical beeping shot me out of my peaceful sleeping. I nudged myself into the lump beside me, inhaling the scent and comfort.

The beeping didn't stop. I groaned and rolled myself over to smack the off button, but insted it hit the volume button, sending the beeping up a whole new level.

"UGH!" I yelled, opening my eyes. Beside me, Evan was fast asleep, his arms wrapped around my waist as his head leaning on my back.

I mentally 'aww'ed. He was so adorable when he's sleeping. I tried stretching towards the annoying beeping sound, only succeeding in falling onto the hardwood flooring, still intertwined with Evan.

"Wazgoingon?" Evan asked sleepily, popping his head up. His dark and light hair was sticking out in all directions. I laughed at his sleepy expression.

"It's the alarms fault." I said jokingly as I began untangling myself of the duvet.

"Hey, stay with me." Evan whined and pulled me back down towards him. I fell ontop of him, but Evan didn't seem to notice.

I laughed. "Comon, I have to go to school. It's the last day." I told him, fully standing.

He sighed, then wrapped himself in the thick duvet and following me out of the room.

I stepped into the large bathroom. I could feel my face, eurgh, hurting. I didn't dare glance in the mirror yet.I showered quickly, then I dressed into a pair of dark denim shorts, and a spaghetti strapped flowery top. I brushed my hair quickly, then was ready to face the worse.

I lifted my head dramatcialy to look myself into the eyes. I winced at the appearence.

My entire cheek was red and swollen, bruises adding a purple-y color. My left eye was black and bruised. Holy crap my dad was strong. I groaned loudly. How was i supposed to fix this?

I wondered into my bedroom, and searching around until I found the over-sized pair of dark sunglasses. At least it was a start, I thought as I slipped them on.

As for my cheek, I patted on gently some foundation. I prayed that it would fool people.

I patted into the kitchen, the dark sunglasses distorting things slightly, Evan and Liz stood around the high counter, leaning against it having an easy conversation whilst eating.

"Hey Babe." Liz greeted as I sat on a stool. I took Evan's Special K cereal from in front of him and munched on it. He gave me a mock glare and I smiled triumphantly.

"Mean-y." Evan grumbled playfully and got up to fetch some breakfast that he could have.

Liz turned towards me, a troubled look on her face.

"What are you gonna do about Ryan? You have to face him." She whispered. I nodded then stuffed another spoonful into my mouth.

"Iw dwon't rweally wnow." I sighed through the contents in my mouth. She nodded, not pressing for anything more. I'll just have to wing it.

"LET'S GOO!" Evan suddenly yelled enthusiastically. I laughed at him as he slung my back back over his shoulder.

"Um... Evan? " I asked, laughing and cocking an eyebrow at the goofball of a boyfriend.

"I'm driving you to school today!" He shouted, pumping his fist in the air.

"Okay... But I call shotgun!" I yelled and ran into the elevator.

"PHEW!" Liz complained dramatically as we rounded into the parking lot of the school. "I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA DIE!"
