Chapter 32

Hotels After Midnight

The car was silent, expect for the constant babble of Mark's chatter, trying to erase the tension hanging in the air.

"--Yeah and it was cra-- Oh! I love this song!" Mark chirped, leaning forwards in the seat of my new car, turning up the volume to some song I didn't know. He belted the words out as loud as he could.

I sighed, glancing back at Evan in the rearview mirror. He was unhappily staring straight ahead. The wind blew through my hair, keeping me awake and alert.

Evan wasn't happy to be sitting in the back, but obviously he couldn't drive with his heavy cast and sitting in the passenger seat would be a tight squeeze, again the cast got in the way.

So, chirpy little Mark got to sit shotgun, while I drove to the Hotel.

Neither of us dared to speak, the both of us thinking deeply.

My mind kept drifting away, blinking hard just to see if this was some horrifying dream.

It scared me, deep down that this was serious enough to have to stay somewhere else while they searched for the attacker. The officers talked like they just knew that the attack had been intentional to specifically Evan. They thought that it was the same person who broke into my apartment too.

I looked at the clock blinking on the stereo screen. We had been driving for ages, for three hourse trying to take the most confusing way to the nearest hotel, which we weren't even sure where that was in the first place.

We were three, well maybe two and a half, scared and paranoid bunch of teenagers.

I tried to drown myself in driving, concentrate on the road ahead. But it was difficult staying on task.

Mark was throwing his hands in the air, mouthing the words to some song. He looked as if he were in a music video.

His song ended, amd he listened intently to the radio guy. I tried to concentrate on the song, maybe that would clear my mind.

"--And tonight, I'll be spinning up your favourite tracks, remix style! Happy friday, yo." The DJ said, then a remixed song started playing.

"You think I'm pretty, without any makeup on...." Mark started singing along, his loud voice trying to mimick the soft sound of Katy Perry's voice.

"You think I'm funny, when I tell the punch line wrong...." Mark sang again, turning around and giving Evan a playfull wink.

I listened along to the words, then decided to jump in.

"Let's go all, the way tonight! No regrets... Just love!" I sang, and Mark grinned at me, I caught Evan's eye in the mirror and winked at him. Evan smiled.

"We can dance, until we die..." Mark sang softly.

"You and I, will be--" I sang.

"YOUNG FOREVER!!" We all chorused. I threw my head back.

"You make me, feel like I'm living a--" Evan said along with Katy.

"Teenage dream, the way you turn me on!" I sang loudly, which sounded more like I was screaming.

"I can't sleep! Let's run away and don't ever look back, don't ever look back!" Mark yelled, sitting up all tall and pointing behind us.

"My heart stops! When you look at me!" Mark sang, doing a dance in his seat. I laughed.

"Just one touch, now baby I belive!" Evan shouted, wriggling his eyebrows at me in the mirror.

Mark gave us a horrified look.
