Chapter 20

 Going Home

A weak light shone through my closed eyelids, irritating my brain as it begged for more sleep. I half-opened my eyes, seeing the sun filtering through the green tent roof, making the light green.

I turned over, preparing for sleep to overtake me again. But something kept me awake.

Voices.

There was no sound from inside the tent, as everyone was fast asleep, tangled up with their boyfriend or girlfriend. But Katelyn was wrapped in sweaters, and I was laying on the hard ground. Alone.

That's when it all came rushing back to me, Evan walking away, Mark comforting me, and me falling asleep on Mark. Poor guy, he must have a bad back now.

A thought cut through my thoughts when I thought about Evan. Was he here?

That Bastard! Anger rose up my throat, as I remembered him leaving and not coming back all night.

I balanced myself on to my elbows, propping myself up as I strained to listen to the voices outside the thin fabric of the tent.

It sounded as if, two men were having an argument. I recognised the voices straight away.

"What the f#ck Mark! I come back, and I see my best friend and my girlfriend tangled up, sleeping on top of each other! What the hell did you think you were doing?!" The deeper voice shouted, I was alarmed, Evan never yelled like this before.

"Excuse me, but after HER BOYFRIEND yelled at her then walked away to 'think' she was pretty upset about it. She seemed convinced that you wanted to break up with her, and she felt like she did something wrong. I was COMFORTING HER, mate! While you went and f#cked around like an asshole!" Mark shouted back.

Silence.

"And Sophie's a great girl. And you can't be treating her like that." Mark spoke again, quieter this time.

There was a long pause, then someone let out a frustrated sigh. I could picture Evan running his hands through his dark and light hair.

"I k-know... What the hell have I done. I feel like a total asshole. Was she really that upset?" Evan whispered.

"Yeah, bro. She fell asleep on me only because I was trying to make her feel better, every one, except for that Katelyn Babe, was asleep all cozy with their boyfriends. And you were running around doing god knows what." Mark said slowly.

I heard Evan swear under his breath.

My eyelids started drooping, as the two boys continued talking. Soon, darkness engulfed me, putting my questions that were swirling around in my brain to be left until morning.
