Astrid's P.O.V.
I tapped my foot impatiently as I waited by a tree in front of the school. I got here early, not wanting to meet the tired, drunk, hungover wrath of my mom. I really wanted to see people's reactions to the lockers but I also didn't know what Hiccup was capable of. Soon, his car pulls up in front of me and Hiccup rolls his window down.
"Get in," he orders and I roll my eyes. He must really like those two words. I get in the passengers seat before he starts driving down the street.
"What are you doing? We're gonna be late for school," I tell him.
"You just relax, little lady," he says as he parks the car on the side of the road. He then pulls out his phone and brings up a picture before showing me. I can't believe this stalker! It was a picture of me doing the graffiti.
"Who is that?" I ask, widening my eyes in hopes of looking shocked.
"You didn't know about this?" Hiccup asks in confusion. My back was to the camera so I could look honest while shaking my head. He looks at the phone before swiping the screen. He shows me again and I mentally roll my eyes. It was of me, standing back to look at my work...facing the camera.
"Then who's this?" he asks. I couldn't answer at the moment; all I could think of is how my mom would react if I got in trouble. The belt, the knife, the gun...so many options would pop into her mind.
"Please don't turn me in," I cry quietly, pushing myself into the corner where the door met the seat. "Please don't tell anyone, please!" I whimper, squeezing my eyes shut as tears jump into them. Hiccup reaches for my hand, clutching the arm rest, but I jerk away, kicking and thrashing my legs as I scream, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please don't tell her! I won't do it again!" Suddenly, I'm thrown back to the time I forgot to get something from the store and my dad went berserk...
I was cowering in the corner as my dad went around, flipping tables and chairs in his anger. He flips the dinning table and next thing I know, I'm screaming in pain. I rip the knife from my calf and stab it into the wall, earning me a kick to the gut from my dad for ruining the paint. As I lay there, struggling for breath, there's one question on my mind: will I ever get free?
I feel Hiccup's hand snap around my wrists and his arm wrap around my legs, making tears flow down my face like a waterfall."Astrid! Calm down!" his voice says calmingly. I slowly open my eyes to see him staring at me in sympathy. "I'm not telling anyone," he tells me and I relax, making him release my hands and legs. "If-" I cut him off.
"I'll do anything, anything. Just please don't tell anyone it was me," I say breathlessly.
"Make it two anythings and it's a deal," he says, extending his hand. My hand shoots forward before I can stop it. Hiccup goes to grab it but I pull it back as a thought occurred to me. "What's wrong?" he asks, looking at me with a mixture of worry and confusion.
"W-what are the 'anything's?" I ask, not trusting him entirely. He then smirks, making me even more uncomfortable.
"One is you have to go on a date with me," he says.
"That makes me nervous for the second one," I tell him.
"Don't worry, it's nothing sexual," he chuckles.
"What is it?" I ask.
"That will be told after the deal is sealed. And if you back out, I'm sorry to say that you will be revealed as the one who defaced school property," he says. I quickly grab his hand and shake it, making him smile. I break it before he starts driving back to school. I'm silent the whole ride, no matter how much he tried to make conversation. "Hey, you know the last one isn't bad in the long run," he says, catching my attention, "You might be reluctant about it in the moment, but once you do it, I can guarantee a weight will be lifted from your shoulders." He was looking at me, due to us being stopped at a red light.
"And a new one added on, I know," I tell him quietly then ask, "Can you tell me what it is? The deal has been sealed."
"Not yet, M'Lady. Does Friday work for you?" he asks.
"I-I-I-I work F-Friday," I tell him as the light turns green.
"Saturday?" he asks before I try to think of an excuse. Finding none, I sigh.
"Depends. What time?" I ask.
"I was thinking 7-7:30," he says and I sigh again.
"Oh, I wish you'd said 4," I say in exasperation.
"Why? You work at 7?" he asks.
"No, I work at 4. I get off at 6:50," I tell him and he rolls his eyes.
"Okay, so 7:30?" he questions before I pause.
"Fine," I sigh and he nods with a smile as he parks at the school. I get out and run inside before rushing to my locker and taking out all the spray paint cans. When I close my locker door, Hiccup is standing there. "You're not gonna tell anyone are you?" I ask, slightly panicked that he had been lying, "That was the deal right?!" He puts a gentle hand over my mouth to silence me.
"Calm down and be quiet or you'll draw attention," he says and I nod before walking quickly to the dumpster behind the school and throwing the cans away. "By the way," Hiccup says as I walk back to my locker, "I like the green eye you did on my locker. It reminds me of my cat."
"That was not planned," I tell him before the bell rings and the hall floods with students rushing to their next class.
"Come on, if we hurry we can sneak into 4th period," he says before grabbing my wrist and pulling me to math.
