Astrid's mother was an abusive alcoholic. Her father was a liar. She experienced little kindness since her father took her from her mother. Before then, he was the best...or as close to "best" as you can get in Astrid's world. When she starts going...
"If Hiccup was annoying before, you have no idea what he's like now. At lunch, he wouldn't leave me alone about the date this Saturday. He wanted to know everything: what I was wearing, how I was gonna do my hair, if I was gonna wear make up...just what?!" I say into my phone only to have Criss scoff.
"I still don't see why he would ask you out instead of me," she says from her side of the line.
"You wanna go in my place?" I ask.
"No. By the way you told me he asked you, it sounds like he's a little loopy," she says causing me to roll my eyes.
"Then stop complaining," I tell her.
"Whatever. Now get down here. We only have until Saturday and knowing you, we'll be there for a while," she says and I hang up before grabbing my wallet. I look inside to see that there's only 200 for me to spend. The rest was hidden in my room, where my mom won't find it. She was at a bar right now, using the rest of her own savings. I should have known she'd go back to drinking and blame it on me. She says she drinks because I stress her out. She stresses me out! I walk into the hall way and lock my door before turning to leave only to bump into Hiccup's chest.
"Hey! Where're you going?" he asks with a grin.
"Shopping with Criss for Saturday. She's waiting downstairs," I tell him.
"How much you got?" he asks.
"200 from my savings," I tell him quietly.
"Can I see your wallet?" he asks. I hand it to him, not sure if he'd tell someone about my graffiti if I didn't. Granted everyone seems to like it, but it's still kinda scary. And they were still hunting me down; I want to stay anonymous. "How much do you have if you spend this?" he asks, looking at my money and counting it.
"About 600," I tell him, looking at my feet. He nods before handing me my wallet back.
"Have fun. Be sure to pick something hot," he tells me with a wink before walking to his door. I shiver before pulling my beanie onto my head and walking downstairs to meet Criss. I get in her car and she looks at me with a raised eye brow.
"What?" I ask and she shrugs. "Come on, I have to work at 6:30," I tell her and she starts to drive. She takes me to Berks top shopping mall and drags me to a dress shop. She puts a light blue, thigh high dress in my hands and shoves me into a dressing room.

I glare at her as I walk out, wearing the dress. She just beams and claps. "You look so hot!" She exclaims.
"This is a definite no," I snap.
"Why?" she whines. I move the dress the slightest bit and it shows my hip. I look at her with a look that screamed 'This is why!'. She scoffs with a roll of her eyes. "Fine," she says and I go back in before she throws another dress over the door.
