Hera

I went into my mother's office and saw her staring at her office view on the right of the room, sitting on one of her couches. She looked lost in her thoughts, probably about Hilary and TsiTsi.

I felt uneasy inside. I knew what she was capable of, but for her to act in such a way towards TsiTsi, who was barely a year old, was unbelievable.

"Ma." I said. She turned her head and saw me in front of her open door, probably looking disgruntled.

I had just come from Hilary's room, I went to see TsiTsi. I saw Hilary packing and looking at the crib and I knew that my mom had something to do with that. So I came to speak with her.

"Come in my baby." She said as she stood up. She was wearing a figure-fitting blue dress with her black hair down and white diamonds on. She was always such a classy lady.

I rode in my wheelchair towards her and positioned myself in front of her, blocking her sight of the beautiful garden view behind me. All eyes would be on me, just so that my mother didn't try any funny business.

She sat back down and faced me, she had  a very distorted face on.

"You look sad. Talk to Ma." She said lovingly, obviously trying her hardest to hide her feelings.

"I am sad. You tried to kick Hilary and TsiTsi out." I went straight to the point, I knew her, she hated chitchat.

"Who's TsiTsi?" She asked suspiciously.

"Mason. I named him. It means compassion."

"You named him?!" She exclaimed, sounding betrayed.

"His name means compassion, Ma! Do you know what that word means?! Huh?" I screamed back, making sure that the topic wasn't changed.

"Yes! I do."

"Then you probably know how much importance that word carries. Right?"

"Yes."

"Then why can't you show some to Hilary and TsiTsi. Or at least to TsiTsi. He is only a baby."

"Hera, I would appreciate it if you didn't concern yourself in things that don't involve you." She said, losing eye contact. I knew it.

"Well Ma, if you hadn't realised. There were plus minus thirty gunmen in the house last night pointing all their pistols and guns and bazookas at you and me and everyone in the dining room. It was like a war zone, and I was scared. Terrified. You didn't seem logical or sane for that matter and the situation seemed as though it would reach a point where your life would've been at risk, mine or even the baby's. So I think it does concern me. I am eighteen years old now Ma, not twelve. I can tell when blood will be shed so talk to me. Now." I demanded.

I looked at her bewildered state and let it sink in. My graduation was coming up and I didn't need all this drama surrounding me. I still hadn't heard from Harvard, my schoolwork was getting heavy and to top it off, my family was breaking up.

Come to think if it, the cracks were there, all that was needed was a push in order to break down the tensions buried deep within us. We knew that this family was falling apart, it was just that nobody said it aloud.

She sat there, stunned. Almost as though she couldn't believe me, but she should. She had no choice. My little brother's life was at stake here.

Of all the times that I'd seen my mother angry, this was by far the worst. I was scared that even I couldn't control her, but luckily the situation steered into a better direction. If one more moment was spent, then surely someone would've died.
