Zeus

"Mom! Mom! Tell me what's happening!" I pleaded desperately.

She just kept walking out of the house, towards her Cadillac.

I was getting frustrated now. She just kept walking away, avoiding me bluntly, making sure not to look at me. I walked in front of her and stood in front of the door, blocking her. I had to know what was happening.

Dad brought Hilary home with him and my mother welcomed her with a black cold gun aimed faultlessly at her brain. My mother didn't miss. Now all of a sudden, she was helping her.

I saw my mother walk out of Hilary's room and when I passed by, I saw Hilary packing. I walked in, thinking that I'd convince her to stay, but instead Hilary told me that it was my mother that wanted to help her from my father. Why would my father be the danger if my mother was the one Mason needed saving from? What was happening?

"Zeus move." She demanded and I actually got scared, but I still stood firm because I needed her to understand that I wasn't moving until I got an explanation.

"No Ma. Why are you helping Hilary and Mason? You said father wants to give his empire to him, which is my right. Knowing you, you'd have killed them by know."

"You don't know me well enough." She said bluntly. I narrowed my eyebrows.

"Ma, I know enough."

"Again, you're wrong." She moved closer to me and put her hand on my shoulder. "Son, listen. I am human. And humans keep changing. Any human that suddenly states that he or she is a certain type of person that cannot change, is arrogant and full of themselves. But I'm not. I'm human and I keep changing. True, I wanted to kill them, but remember that I too have a heart and I felt sudden compassion for that boy. I changed my point of view, put myself in Hilary's shoes. Any mother would kill for her children, like me, and this is Hilary's first child, her first chance at motherhood. I can't take that away from her. I wouldn't have wanted that to happen to me when I was pregnant with you. I realised that keeping TsiTsi here would cause problems between me and your father. Therefore resulting in you guys having to chose between me and your father. I can't do that either. So I spoke to Hilary and we decided to move her. Somewhere no-one will find out about her and that will keep the peace. Think about it son."

"Where to?" I asked, now more curious than ever.

"Zeus, curiosity didn't only kill the cat... it also made our churches empty and our jail cells full. Now move."

She pushed me gently out of her way and I let her do it. She opened her door, got in, closed the door and Blade started the car and they drove away. I was still standing there, thinking deeply about what she had just told me.

She sounded so right, so compassionate, like the mother that had raised me. I was used to her getting rid of the competition for us that I forgot to remember that she too was human and she too could change. Like everyone else.

My mother was extremely wise. I felt so guilty for thinking so little of her. She raised me to learn to accept people for who they were. Yet here I was, finding it hard to accept my mother's decisions, blaming it all solely on my poor judgements of her.

She definitely raised me better than that. I should've been grateful. She was protecting my legacy, for heaven's sake. I should've been on my knees, kissing her toes and clinging pathetically to her, begging for her forgiveness. But she didn't sound angry or disheartened. She sounded just fine. Perfect.

I walked back into the house and went upstairs to Hilary's room. She was feeding Mason. I knocked. "Come in." She sounded fine. I walked in and sat next to her. She smiled at me.

"I spoke to her like you asked. She said that she was helping you guys."

"I told you. Why did you doubt her? Why did you doubt me?" She teased.

She looked back at Mason and caressed his cheek. He truly was an adorable boy and looked exactly like my dad.

I took over feeding Mason. She stood up and walked to his crib to fetch a blue woollen blanket for him.

"She said something weird though." I said. She turned back and looked at me worriedly.

"What is it?" She asked me with wide eyes.

"Hey calm down. She just said some weird word. Tisi, Tinsti or something like that..." I said, looking at my adorable little brother.

Hilary giggled, which got me suspicious.

"What's funny?" I asked.

"TsiTsi. It's your brother's new name." She laughed, she had a beautiful smile.

Hilary was a very gorgeous woman which was why I didn't blame my father for falling for her.

"Poseidon has a new name?" I asked, sounding so stupid.

"No, that little over-eating beast in your arms does. Your sister named her. Hera, I think?" I nodded, fully knowing that only Hera would take her time to work out a name that sounded just right, she was so warm-hearted.

"What does it even mean?" I asked.

"Compassion. Cute, isn't it. And it's exactly what your mother is showing me and this almost fat TsiTsi." She said in a baby voice while taking him into her arms to burp him. I put his bottle next to me and then realised something. I chuckled at the idea.

"What's funny?" Hilary asked.

"Well, you probably won't believe this but... my mother said the exact same thing earlier.

"She said what?"

"Compassion. She said that she realised that all she needed to do was show you guys some compassion. Weird huh?"

"Well it's true." She said, walking away from me and pacing around while patting Mason's, or should I have said TsiTsi's, small back gently.

"Hey..." I called out to her, remembering something else.

"Yes." She turned to look at me.

"You mentioned that my mother was helping you from my father. Why would my father be the enemy?"

Hilary turned around, her back facing me, and I got suspicious.

One minute we were fine, the next she couldn't face me. What was she thinking? What is she hiding?

"Answer me." I said, maybe sounding a little angry. She kept looking away, but I still wanted an answer.
