your pov

"mumma i don't wanna wear this" your daughter whined, pulling at the edge of her pink sweater.

"alright, what else do you want to wear then?" you sighed, trying not to get too frustrated with her. being an single mom was really hard at times, but eva, your three year old daughter made it all worth it.

you were going steady with a guy you met in college, you dated for a couple years, then you broke up and then found out you were pregnant. determined that you could raise a baby by yourself you moved towns and became a single mom.

you ended up moving back to brooklyn, where you're originally from, to be with your parents.

"hey bug, if you wear this sweater, i'll take you to the park ok?" you smiled, squatting down to her level. she nodded furiously, "okay mommy" .

you scooped her up and placed her on your hip, bringing her to the kitchen, where you collected your purse and car keys, then walked her out to car, where she got strapped into her car seat and you drove to the park.

she babbled about dogs and the park the entire time you walked her to the park. you noticed there were many other parents and their kids at the park, this meant eva could meet some other kids before she went into kindergarten.

you placed her down next to a girl she had played with before and went to go talk to some other moms.

after catching up with the moms, you brought out a book and sat at the bench a couple feet away from eva and started reading.

being so caught up in the book, you hadn't noticed eva making her way over to someone's dog and pulling their tail and poking the poor golden retriever.

you looked up quickly and jogged over to where eva was. you scooped up and placed her on your hip. "i am so sorry-" you began apologizing to the owner when he turned around, it was joji.

"y/n" he mumbled, looking at you. "joji" you muttered, feeling eva wiggle around in your grasp.

"i thought you moved" he stuttered, "i did, i moved back" you replied, trying to settle eva down by bouncing your hip.

his eyes went to eva, then back at me, then to eva. "who's this pumpkin?" he grinned, causing her to giggle. "e-eva. this is eva." you smiled down at her.

you could see the moment the realization hit him, "how old is eva?" he questioned. your blood ran cold, "she's three" you admitted softly.

he nodded, his eyes glancing at your hand, looking for a ring. it was exactly three years since you and joji had broke up.

"i-is eva mine?" he stuttered, joji and eva looked identical. they had the same skin tone and eyes. eva's hair resembled yours but her nose looked exactly like his. there was no doubt this was jojis baby.

"we have a lot to talk about don't we?" he mumbled, stifling a laugh. you smiled, nodding. "c-can i hold her?" he asked, looking at her.

"sure" you agreed, kissing eva's forehead and handing her over to joji. joji wrapped his hands around her, then placed her on one arm. parenting appeared to come easy to him.

she was giggling as he tickled her side, "so, you've been a single mom?" he questioned, "yeah" you nodded, you were expecting some sort of snarky comment that usually came when you told people you are raising her by herself. but instead, his eyes softened, "youre doing a really good job" he muttered, looking directly into your eyes.

"thank you" you smiled, this was exactly the reason you had fallen in love with him in the first place. his eyes and the constant love and support.

eva was half asleep in his arms, "she's pretty tired, it's actually time for a nap. but we should definitely talk" i muttered, joji nodded and handed her back.

"please call me" he smiled softly, writing his number down. "i will, i promise" you replied. your stomach filling with the butterflies you always had when you were around joji.

"bye joji" you smiled, "bye y/n" he grinned, waving goodbye to a half asleep eva. i buckled her in her car seat and placed my purse in the front, clutching jojis number the whole drive home.
