(For you Assassin Creed 3 fans, I didn't want to follow the story from the game of Assassin Creed Three for copyright reasons. However, I hope you enjoy this story as I believe this should have happened at the end of 3)
Patrick
I've been a Templar running the Cormac business for two years now, and since the assassination of the Templar Grand Master, we still don't have a replacement. Papa didn't step up, and I didn't want it either. I just had another child; I didn't like the expectations and responsibilities of being Grand Master on my shoulders.
So, his daughter is poised to take over as the next head of the Templar cause. The problem is, when she eventually finds out that we're responsible for the death of her father, we'd be as good as dead. However, until then, we'll continue our business and try to unite the Assassins and Templars. It's a risky gamble but one that could change everything.
Late one evening, after a long work day, I sat in the study nursing a glass of whiskey when Liam strolled in. His lanky frame was draped in Papa's old rough sailor's attire, the scent of salt air still clinging to him despite being miles from the coast.
"Patrick," he started, leaning against the doorframe, "we need to talk."
I gestured for him to come in. "What's on your mind, brother? You look like you've got the world's weight on your shoulders."
He hesitated, glancing at the whiskey bottle before pulling up a chair. "I've decided to join the Navy. This isn't new news, but I've decided to join them in the colonies."
"Go on," I said, curious now. Liam wasn't one for brooding or deep conversations that was more my realm.
"I don't want to be part of the Templar cause. I never wanted it, and with Papa and your permission, I'd like to renounce my Templar credits and become a full-time sailor formally," he admitted, his voice quiet but firm. "The Templars, the secrecy, the bloodshed. It's not for me."
I raised an eyebrow. "If that's what you want, Liam, have you spoken to Mama about this?" He nodded. "She knew before Papa and I did, didn't she? " He nodded again, a smile crawling upon his face. "Liam, if you're not part of the Templar order, I can't keep you safe, but you're a fantastic sailor; you've got us out of a few mishaps."
"Thank you, brother, I don't think I need your protection anymore. I'm grown now, and Elliot wants to come with me when he comes of age he and Rosemary are close to completing their training, I'll be with Florence and would be able to fully be at peace with my choice, just imagine the stories I'll be able to tell, Brother." My youngest brother was more a part of the sea than any of us were; he was still young with no family holding him back he had all the world at his feet. "Look, I know you've done well keeping the business afloat, and I respect you for it. But me? I've always been drawn to the sea. I want to serve with honour, not deceit. That's why I've decided to join the Navy. In the colonies."
"In the colonies? Liam, do you know what you're saying?" I was trying to make him feel bad because I didn't want him to leave. He was my baby brother, and I wanted my family together, I lost my uncle and my aunt our family has gone from one big family to only a few.
He met my gaze steadily. "I know the risks. But I also know what I'm capable of. They need sailors in the Americas, especially with all the unrest out there. It's a chance to make something of myself, to be part of something bigger than this endless war."
I leaned back in my chair, swirling the amber liquid in my glass as I processed his words. "Do you think the navy's going to offer you the peace you're looking for? The colonies are a powder keg, Liam. You'll be trading one battlefield for another."
