Real Life

"Baby, Diego is on his way!" I snap my head up from my phone, to Jessica who is making us coffee.

"He texted you back?" I ask, trying to hide the hurt in my voice, obviously failing by the look Jessica gives me. I look down at my phone, opened on Diego and I's text conversation, or lack of, seeing that he had left me on read.

"Yeah, only because I harassed him. He isn't upset with you Melissa, he is all over the place, kind of like you." She says in a kind voice, walking over to the couch I'm curled up on, with two cups of hot coffee in tow.

"I don't even remember last night, the only thing I know right now is that I'm a mess." I sigh, sipping the coffee.

"Everyone's a mess babe, and the best people don't hide it, they own it." She smiles at me, "Look we have sometime before Diego gets here, let's talk."

"I think I have romantic feeling for Diego, and I know I still love or at least care about Neels. And I just feel terrible because I'm a cheater and no matter how douchey Neels acts," I hear Jess scoff, "He doesn't deserve that."

"Maybe take time for yourself? You know be single? And Neels douchey? No." She says rolling her eyes, "Anyway having feelings for someone isn't cheating."

"You're right, I need to figure my shit out, and cant drag them into this. He doesn't mean to be that way, I swear. He tries not to. And, well." I stutter, "Diego and I kind of kissed." I look away, avoiding Jess' eyes.

"YOU TWO KISSED? BLESS." She says happily, I turn to her, wide eyed laughing at her reaction.

"I don't get how that makes you so excited? You were literally dating him not that long ago." I say softly, unsure how to navigate the whole Diego-Jess situation, I wanted them both in my life, but I was worried about how Jess really felt about me having feelings for Diego.

"Babe, again Diego has felt, and does feel way more like a best friend to me than anything romantic. I'm 100% okay with you two." We both laugh, I felt so grateful to have met Jess, and for the closeness of our friendship. "I know it seems quick, but Diego and I are both happier this way, and we are both so lucky to have you in our lives. Anyway, I'm probably y'alls number 1 shipper." I laugh at her comment pull her into a hug, feeling grateful to have met her, and that she was a part of my life now. Our moment was interrupted by a knock on our door. I feel my heart stop, Diego was here, and I wasn't sure if I was prepared to talk to him just yet, I just knew I wanted to see his face.

"Well look like its my time to go, I'll see you later okay babe?" Jess says, gathering her things. "You done with your coffee?" She asks

"Oh no, still drinking it." I say looking at the door, not making any move to open it.

"Okay well let me put this in the dishwasher, take a deep breathe, relax and then I'll let Diego in, okay?" She rubs my shoulder quickly, before turning to take her dish to my kitchen. Everything happened so quickly, suddenly Jess was already opening the door. I shifted in my seat, turning towards the door to see
Diego standing there with tired eyes.

"Hi." I say softly, giving him a cautious smile.
