Real Life
"So, he just left?" Jess asks, annoyance in her voice.
"Well I basically asked him to? And he wants space from me, so it's better this way." I sigh, fixing my eye makeup, after a day of constant crying, my eyes were super red and swollen.
"So? I expected him to jump for joy when you told him you were going to dump Neels." She rolled her eyes as she curled the ends of her hair.
"Well I didn't get to that, it was awkward silence, then him saying he needs space from me, then him leaving." I sigh, nothing was helping the puffiness around my eyes.
"Wait, hold the fuck up. He doesn't know you dropped whiteboy." Jess stops what she is doing, turning to look at me with harsh eyes.
"Well no," I say softly. "He said his piece, and I let him go, cried a whole lot. Then went and broke things off with Neels, somehow cried some more. And then you came over cause I called you while crying." I laugh at how dramatic the day had been.
"Right," Her glare softens, "How did Neels take the break up?" my heart hurts at the mention of his name, knowing that I had hurt him but made the right decision. I knew I couldn't keep seeing him if I wasn't sure about how I felt, it would be unfair to him.
"He got mad, jumped to the idea of Diego and I. Once I talked him out of that, I think he understood that it is what I needed. But he still seemed upset." I sigh, replaying Neels' hurt expression when I broke up with him. I feel tears brimming my eyes as the emotions of the day seem to flood back. "New topic, please."
"Oh shit, I'm sorry babe. New topic, new topic. Uh, so I'm so happy that you were able to call me, and that you needed me but why not Kelsey?" She asks me softly, she had finished her hair, and had moved to be closer to me.
"I don't know, I feel so close to you and comfortable with you. Plus, Kelsey has been so wrapped up in Ethan, I've felt kind of on the outside. Like I've always wanted them to get together, because I know how good they are for eachother, but it's weird being on the outside, my two best friends are wrapped up in eachother and it feels like they don't have time for me." I sigh, knowing how I was feeling seemed ridiculous but I couldn't help it.
"Oh shit. no that makes sense, you've always kind of been in the middle when it came to them, you were the reason they became friends," I nod, they met because of me, and I always forced them to be around eachother, and now they were with eachother 24/7 and I was just left out. "And now they are together, in a way that doesn't include you." She wraps an arm around me, rubbing my back in comfort. I lean into her, relaxing and feeling so grateful for her friendship.
"Jess, thank you so much for supporting me. You've been such an amazing friend to me. Where are we going tonight?" I pull away from her, looking back at the mirror, trying to see what I could do to make my makeup look less like I've been crying all day.
"It's no problem, babe. I'm happy to be here for you. This club downtown, my friend is hosting a party there, should be fun." She says, standing behind to help me with my hair.
"Okay sounds good. It'll take my mind of things, hopefully." I sigh, giving up on my face, it's as good as its gonna get. "I'm ready when you are."
"Alrighty then babe, let's go." She smiles, grabbing her purse and doing a look over in the mirror.
"Holy crap, it's packed like sardines in here." I shout to Jess over the music.
"Shit, right? I didn't think it would be this packed." She grabs my hand, pulling me with her as she maneuvers throughout the club. "Here let's head to the VIP area, we should be on the list."
"Should be?" I laugh.
"Yeah, well the dude I know is an idiot, he said we would, but he does so much shit who knows what he remembers." She shrugs, still leading me. We finally get to the area, where a security guard is standing.
"Name." He grunts out.
"Jessica Bueermann and a plus 1." Jess says over the music.
"Alright, you're both in miss." He moves to the side, letting us into the area.
"Let's go baby!" She pulls me in, heading to an open area where we could sit. "Let's get a drink."
"Yes, I need one." I say, about to get up and head the bar area.
"Hold up Melissa, just sit for a second." She moves closer to me, placing her hand on my leg.
"What are you doing?" I ask in a questioning voice, unsure of where she was going with this.
"Just give me a minute and go along. I'm getting us free drinks." She whispers, pushing her body close to mine.
"Hey ladies, these are for you." I look away from Jess to see a waitress handing us a couple of drinks. Jess pulls away from me and smiles at the waitress.
"Thank you so much!" She says, "Do you know from who?"
"Those two gentlemen over there." She points over to two men dressed well. Jess waves at them, flashing her perfect smile.
"See." She turns to me, handing me a drink. "Free drinks are always better."
"I mean free anything is always the best." I laugh, taking a sip.
"Okay, don't freak but the guys are walking this way. I know you're kind of a mess, so do you want me to make them go away and keep this as a girl's night, or let loose and hangout with these dudes?" She asks me quickly.
"Fuck it." I say chugging the last of my drink. "Let's let loose."
"Fuck yeah." Jess says, kissing my cheek and turning towards the guys that approached us. Hopefully tonight will help me forget the events of today.
