Real Life
"Diegoooooooo. Do you have to go?" I whine, from my couch as Diego was slipping on his shoes. It was almost midnight and he was headed to a late-night studio session.
"Yes baby, I do." He chuckles, moving towards me. He bends down, placing a kiss on my forehead. I wrap my arms around him, looking up at him pouting. "Don't give me that face, baby." He says softy, moving hair from my face.
"Then stay." I smile softly, knowing that he couldn't, I was just prolonging him leaving. He chuckles again, pecking my forehead one more time before pulling away from me and grabbing his backpack.
"Baby." He gives me a playfully stern look.
"Okay. Okay. Have fun without me." I pout, curling a blanket around me.
"It won't be fun without you. But can't have you there tonight, I'm always distracted when you're there." He chuckles, walking towards the front door.
"I know, I know. But the work always gets done. I can't believe Stat actually banned me." I laugh, I knew Diego could get distracted but really was never that bad.
"It's just because there is a deadline. Now I'm leaving before you make me later than I already am. Go to bed baby, sweet dreams, I love you." My heart always flutters at those three words.
"Night Diego, I love you. Good luck, work hard." I smile, blowing him a kiss as he closes the door and locks it with the set of keys that I gave him.
As soon as Diego leaves my heart hurts. The last week we've spent less and less time together, but when we were together it always felt right. Maybe I was uneasy because of the girls always chasing Diego, or some of my own insecurities eating at me. I knew in my heart that Diego was changing and wasn't the same guy he used to be but his old ways, my insecurities' and how pretty the girls were, made my heart uneasy and gave me lingering thoughts.
Nowadays I'm too cool for a girlfriend-
I glance at my caller ID and see Ethan's name, I quickly answer.
"What's up E?"
"Melissaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. What are you doing?" He asks, I hear a tv in the background.
"Nothing much, Diego just left to pick you up and go to the studio. Apparently, I can't go because I distract Diego too much." I chuckle through the phone, half focusing on the TV. I had Law and Order playing.
"Picking me up? Studio? What the fuck you talking about Liss? I'm at home bored out of my mind, and Diego ain't letting you go to the studio?" I hear confusion laced through his voice, and confusion hits me at his response.
"He said that he was going to get you and head to the studio? He literally just left my place? And no not Diego, he said Stat said I couldn't go tonight." I said, my mind reeling.
"Melissa, I promise you that Diego never asked me to go to the studio, or to pick me up. And Stat doesn't make that decision? Diego does. If Stat made that decision Diego wouldn't have girls there all the time." I hear his gasp as he realizes what he said, "I mean like not all the – "He starts to backtrack.
"Ethan, shut up." I can feel my heart racing; my mind was overthinking and over processing all this information. "So, he lied to me? About the studio, or at least about you going, and why I can't go?" My mouth feels dry, I hear rustling over the line.
"Melissa, breathe. I'm coming over right now, okay?" I nod my head briefly, forgetting that he can't see me.
"Okay." I say shortly. "Drive safe." I mumble before clicking the end call button.
Breathe, Melissa. Diego wouldn't hurt you. Breathe.
It feels like an eternity before I hear a knock on my door.
