Real Life
"Have you seen Diego?" Jess asked, we were walking around the mall, hoping for some retail therapy.
"No, not since he left for the 'studio'. He's been texting me though." I say, I put hand quotes around studio because with all the lies I don't even know if that's where he really went.
"Don't ice him out, Ethan was right, you need to talk to him." She says while she was looking at some Coach shoes.
"I'm not. I've been texting him, just not as much as usual. Not because of whatever is going on, but more because I shouldn't be so dependent on someone. My happiness shouldn't rely on some guy, I need to be independent and happy." I shrug my shoulders, looking through the assorted heels. "Plus, he hasn't asked to see me, so."
"Okay, jut don't ice him before you talk to him. And you're right your happiness shouldn't rely on Diego, but he can boost your happiness and you can't help it. Bitchhhhhh you could easily ask him to hang out, rather than wait for him." She gives me a look, fully knowing that if I asked Diego to hangout he would say yes.
"Fine, fine. Can we just shop and forget all our problems." I send her a begging smile, hoping she would agree.
"Yes, of course. BUT," she lifts her finger, pausing my excitement "Call Diego after all our crazy shopping." I roll my eyes, frustrated because I know I should call Diego, but I didn't want to deal with him.
"Fine." I groan in frustration. "Let's go to Sephora. We will literally shop until we drop." I lead Jess out of the store, making a note to come back around because I saw Jess eyeing a pair of shoes, and her birthday was coming up.
"I literally cannot shop anymore Mel." Jess whines, we had hit some many stores and our poor bank accounts were hit hard.
"We should do a haul! We both bought so much shit." I laugh as we make our way to the parking garage. My poor feet were dead, I wasn't sure how much more I could walk.
"That'd be so cool! We really did, I'm so hungry." She whined some more, I laugh because at the exact moment my stomach growled.
"Veggie Grill." I squealed, excited thinking about food. Jess rolls her eyes at my request, but I knew she was fine with my choice.
"Okay, when we get to the restaurant, you're going to call Diego." She skips off ahead of me, not waiting for a response. She looked crazy skipping, arms full of bags.
"Fine." I shout after her, laughing while my stomach did somersaults at the thought of the impending conversation.
"Jess next time I'm making you try something new." I take another bite of my bowl, as Jess eats her grilled chiken sandwich.
"I'm fine with my order, thank you. Now you have some food in you, so you won't be a bitch to Diego on the phone. Call." She sets her food down, glaring at me. I'm so thankful for Jess even when she is making me do things that I don't want to do. She became the force in my life that helped me stay true and honest to myself and always work to be the best of me.
"Alright, all right." I mumble, putting my fork down. I pull my phone out of my bag, clicking on Diego's contact name
bb diego😍💓
I take a deep breathe, preparing myself as I click the call button.
"Hey baby," I hear threw the phone, my heart flutters when I hear his familiar voice.
"Hi Diego." I say softly, not sure where I was going with this conversation.
"What's going on little baby? I haven't seen you in two whole ass days. I miss ya." He says, and my heart flutters at him saying he misses me.
"Not much, having lunch with Jess. I know, it's been a minute. Miss u too." I mumble, "I was just wondering what you were doing tonight?" I hear rustling through the phone.
"Let's do a movie night? Come over when Jess and you are done."
"Ok, I'll go over after. We also have to talk when I get there." I say quickly, unsure how to let him know, or how I will talk to him later.
"Talk?" I hear his voice tense over the phone.
"Um yes, talk, but I've got to go right now. I'll see you later Diego." I spaz out quickly, hanging up the phone.
I look up to see Jess giving me a look, probably for my spiritic ending of the call.
"What?" I say as I stuff food into my mouth.
"What do you mean what? You can't just tell someone you need to talk and then hang up. That's cruel." She laughs, knowing that I didn't mean to be a spaz and hang up on him.
"He's going to freak out on me huh?" I mumble, and on que my phone starts to blow up with texts. "Dear lord."
"You done awaken a beast." She laughed at how much my phone was buzzing, how Diego was freaking out.
"I should respond huh?" I sigh, knowing not responding would drive Diego even more crazy.
"Yes Melissa." She chuckles, continuing to eat her food as I picked up my phone and respond to Diego.
