"It's been a while, Jeff. Where you been all this time? You're usually one of Zalgo's especially pesky bugs. Heard you found a new play thing, from Clockwork"
Jeff shifted, messing with the collar of the stolen police uniform. I wiggled, too. I wanted so badly to crawl out of this space in the ceiling and get my thoughts in order with him. He knew me better than I knew myself, yet here I am, having him right under my nose and never once seeing that he was there. Forgive me, Jeff. I failed you.
"So what if I do?" Jeff answered, "She has nothing to do with this"
"Well, I heard from a little blue bird that she's who we want. Not to mention Toby providing us with the juicy details of your heroic attempt to shield Kerstion's child from us, lucky for you we never found her location...at least until now"
I could tell Jeff was pinned to a corner, no comeback could fix this situation, and even he knew it.
"Leave her out of this, Zero," he spat, "Just leave her be, she's done nothing to deserve this"
Chrome, also known as Zero, looked down at her sledgehammer as if contemplating what to do with it. "I know, I know it's not, but business is business, and business runs in the family. It's nothing personal"
"From my perspective it looks pretty personal" Jeff countered
"Well, after i'm finished here you won't have to worry about it anymore"
"You touch her and I'll kill you"
Zero smirked, "Is that a challenge?"
No answer. That means yes.
"Hmph. Alright, Jefferey." Zero cracked her knuckles and raised her weapon, "Game on"
She had made a move so fast I did not get to blink before she was advancing in the bathroom. with a swift hit Jeff is launched into the stalls, a cry of pain surging into the air as he holds his ribs
Until now, I noticed that Jeff doesn't have a weapon, which makes me bite my nails nervously. Tears threaten my vision at this stressful moment and I barely notice as a tear falls from my cheek and lands on her gloved hand. She stops her attack and freezes, her gaze locked on her hand before looking up at the ceiling, a smile creeping into her paper white cheeks.
"I found you"
She lifts her hammer and swings the metal tip into the ceiling , the tile under me collapsing and I make a several meter to the floor, my breath coming in shallow gasps as the air is launched from my lungs. The world spins awkwardly and I struggle to see anything in front of me, but I do know that I have to move, fast. I'm in danger and my body knows it.
Zero stands over me, "Let's make this quick"
A scene all too familiar plays at the corners of my mind. A distant memory blending into this moment like a watercolor painting.
Toby- my father, or whoever he was under the influence of his Souls- hovering over my sweat and blood covered body, glaring down at me as he raised his ax and severed my arm from my body. Something I will never forget, unable to regain the parts of myself that were cut by metal.
Not again will I feel that pain. Not like this.
I see her hammer headed towards my head, time coming in a few frames per second. A voice unlike my own spoke in the dark.
I have you.
I don't know what it means, but as I feel myself roll to my side when all of my muscles moved at their own will, I feel the pulsing sensation of another heart beating in tandem with mine. I felt my Soul make its first appearance to me, and I knew its name:
