Harry Styles:

Some guys from the dorms were headed over to a frat party tonight and invited me to go with them. I hadn’t really thought about going, but they insisted I did. I guess they saw me there in the previous weeks and most likely want me to be with them to attract some girls.

I heard them talking outside of my door. I think I heard one of them referring to me as a chick magnet; and another saying that they could use it as an advantage since they wanted to get laid. I just laughed to myself when I heard that. It’s sad that they can’t get laid without needing someone else’s help, but I got over that fairly quickly.

They came and knocked on the door, and basically begged me to join them. Since I felt a tad bit sorry for them, I went along. Something inside of me told me not to go. I was actually going to work on some things for class. That’s what I told Melanie I was going to do after she asked if I wanted to get a late dinner. I know how upset she would be if she saw me out. But she doesn’t party so I’m fine. Either way it’s not like I owe her an explanation as to why I’m going out if she sees me. I don’t think I do. Do I?

It’s only been a couple hours of us being here and already I’ve gotten most of the guys a girl for the night. They come to me and I let them know that so and so is the real life of the party. I tell them that if they like me, or simply what they’ve heard of me, then they will definitely love what they have to offer. And well, I don’t know if these girls are just stupid or too drunk to process what I’m saying but they just nod and go along with it, so it’s been pretty easy to do.

Melanie Reed:

“Harry?” I said to myself and to him as well I guess.

“Melanie?”

“What are you doing here?” I asked curious as to why he was here and why he lied to me about being here.

“Mel, I can explain. I swea-” He began to say but was cut off by a short brunette.

“Harry! Where are you going? Last week you said we could have some fun together the next time you came around, and like I really want to you know,” she said annoyingly as she ran to his side and clung onto him as if he was about to disappear.

“I can’t now,” He said to her as he attempted to remove himself from her hold.

Hearing him say he can’t now made me realize that I was right. He and I are never going to be anything more than just friends. Friends who kiss every now and then. I figured the only thing I could do now was either go to the party or go to my dorm. I don’t really feel like doing either right now. I just want to get out of here and think. I don’t know what there is to think about but I would rather be anywhere else but here. Lily will understand that I cannot be anywhere near him right now and I’m sure she’ll find someone else here that she knows. I’ll text her to let her know that I have to leave.

As I was walking away and towards my car I heard Harry coming after me, “wait, Melanie! I can explain! Please wait.” It wasn’t long before he caught up to me and grabbed onto my arm not allowing me to walk any further.

“No, Harry. What do you need to explain? You don’t have to explain anything to me. There’s nothing to explain. You’ve made it pretty clear that we’re friends and that’s all we’re ever going to be. And honestly, I think we need to start acting like friends.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, for starters, friends don’t just kiss other friends everyday like you and I do; at least, not that I know of. And friends don’t have to explain to friends about who they’re about to have sex with or anything of the sorts. We. Are. Friends.” I said to him as I turned around again to walk away.
