Melanie Reed:
I stood still for a very long time, or so it felt; it was probably only a minute long. I couldn’t really think straight and I wasn’t sure if Harry had even heard me yelling for him. What if he had left?
“Harry,” I yelled again but my voice felt so hoarse. What if he can’t hear me?
I looked around and slowly made my way over to the stair case. Once there, I heard his voice, “Melanie?”
With so much joy in my mind, I yelled his name once more. I then heard the door rattling, and I remembered that Dean had locked it. I ran up the stairs and looked for the lock, but like many of the changes they had made to the basement since the last time I was in here, there was no lock, only a key hole above the door handle. There was no way I was going back down to look for that key. I don’t know if he set it down anywhere or if it’s in his pockets or anything. I just don’t know.
I hit the door to let him know I was on the other side, “Harry? The doors locked and I don’t know where the key is,” I breathed erratically and loudly.
“Melanie, when did you get here? And how in the hell did you get yourself locked in the basement, it only locks from the inside,” Travis questioned loudly from the other side of the door, but I wasn’t given the chance to answer or explain anything when Harry began talking again.
“Yeah, we can’t open it from out here. You have no idea where the key could be?” I could hear the worry traced in his tone.
“No, I- I don’t. Harry, you have to get me out of here,” I demanded quietly as I slowly grew anxious.
“Uh, I know you said never to talk to you again, but I, uh, I just think you should try breaking the door knob off, or simply the door down or something. I don’t know,” I heard Aaron saying in a low voice. What was he doing here?
“Yeah man, just do it. My dad’s not coming back from his business trip until next week; there will be time to replace it. Besides, he was talking about taking this door down and moving the entrance of the basement to the outside.” I heard Travis say again.
“Okay, Melanie?” he questioned as he also agreed with them, but I didn’t respond, “Babe, I need you to step back away from the door as much as you could.”
I wasn’t sure how I managed to move at all, but I slowly moved back down the step only enough to where if the door slammed open I wouldn’t get hit. I hadn’t realized that Harry had already managed to swing the door open. I just stood there breathing heavily trying to figure out what had just happened. I don’t know when I had started crying, but it wasn’t until Harry reached up to dry my cheek that I noticed he had been inside with me. He was questioning what had happened, and why I was in there when I heard Aaron and Travis talking downstairs.
“I thought you said Dean wasn’t here.”
“He wasn’t, you saw him leave too. He wasn’t here Aaron.”
“Well then, why the fuck was he down here with her? Why did he have her locked down her?” I heard Aaron question angrily and then I saw Harry angrily trying to get passed me as well.
“No, Harry, stop.” I immediately went to try and stop him from walking past me.
“No Mel; he had you locked up down here and I want to go give him a piece of my mind.”
“Harry, don’t. You don’t need to do anything. Leave them to deal with him; I just want to leave now. Please, can we go?” I practically begged pathetically.
