I finished up work and looked at my watch, I was supposed to finish a while ago but this job wasn't something you could walk away from at a certain time. You see I'm a police officer, I had a suspect in custody and I had to get him processed and find him a cell which on top of him resisting every step of the way meant that it had taken me a long time. I quickly change back into my regular clothes before going home.

"Megan! Daddy's home." I call through the house.

I took my shoes of and hung up my Coat before going through to the kitchen where my grumpy 9 year old is sitting at the table and my wife, Laura is heating up dinner.

"What did I do this time?" I questioned. Megan only wouldn't talk to me when I had done something wrong but she didn't reply.

"You promised you would get home early to take her to Ballet." Laura reminds me as she sits opposite Megan at the table.

"Oh I'm sorry Megs, I got stuck at work. I promise you I'll take you to your Saturday class."I tell her but she doesn't look convinced.

"Stop promising her things that you're never going to do." Laura says sounding very annoyed.

"I'm going to take her but right now It's bedtime, come on missy." I reply.

"Night Laura." Megan calls, see Laura's her step mum has been for the last 3 years.

I take Megan upstairs and tuck her in before going back downstairs and into the kitchen.

"How was work then?" Laura asks as she puts my dinner on the table.

"No too bad, I got caught up in an arrest at the end of the day" I tell her.

"she misses you" Laura says.

"I miss her too but I can't help being late home" I reply.

"I know that, can't you take the weekend off though, spend some time with him" Laura asks.

"I'll ask but we're a bit under staffed at the minute." I tell her.

||Next Morning||

I wake up early the next morning 5 am in fact. I make my way into work and wait in the conference room for our briefing. Being a policeman sure was rewarding at times but the 5 am call in's always knocked you back.

"Right, I need you two on patrol in the town centre" The captain says pointing in the direction of some other offices.

"Detective Kingston I need you to patrol the streets and the rest of you are out at the festival near by" The captain spoke.

I was Detective Kingston, the lucky person who got to patrol the streets alone.

I made my way out into the car park and found my police car, I hoped inside and turned on my radio.I started patrolling the streets. That was always a weird thing, no place in mind, just aimlessly driving around.

I hadn't been driving around for very long when I dropped my radio down the side of my chair, I could hear a call coming through and tried to pull it out of the small gap.I took my eyes of the road for a second and slowed down the car when I heard a 'Crash'.

My eyes suddenly darted up to the windscreen as I stopped the car. Not able to see anything I jumped out only to see a lifeless body in front of my car. I quickly get back in the car and find my radio before kneeling down next to the victim and searching for a pulse.

"325 to control we've got a pedestrian hit by a car on Millburrow avenue. Unconscious but still breathing." I radio in.

"Control to 325 an ambulance is on the way." I hear back through the radio call back before people start coming out from the surrounding houses.

"Is she going to be alright, she just ran out into the road." A women asks as she walked over.

"The ambulance is on it's way, do you know her?" I questioned.

"She lives across the street. Saw it all from my window." The woman replies.

"Would you see if anyone's at home? her parents maybe." I asked.

She walked off and over to a house as I monitored her breathing to make sure it didn't slow.

The parents came out and The ambulance soon arrived which took them to the hospital. Meanwhile I had to go back to the station and right a report on what happened and then probably be interrogated.
