Thanksgiving

I turned up at Abby's the next night with a bottle of wine in my hand and rung the doorbell. I was soon invited inside by Jimmy. I followed him through into the living room where I could see into the kitchen. Abby was stood in there looking extremely flustered and shouting at Tim and Gibbs about the timing of the turkey or something.

"The oven broke and Abby's freaking out." Tony tells me as he hands me a drink.

He returned back to his seat where he looked to be having an in depth conversation with Ziva. I took a big sip from the glass of wine Tony had poured me and made my way into the Kitchen.

"Hey Abby, where do you want this?" I ask holding out the wine bag.

"The Turkey's not cooked. The mash potatoes are lumpy. I haven't even started on the other stuff." Abby rants ignoring my question.

"Ziva!" I call.

"You can beat people to a pulp can't you?" I question.

"Yes." She says sheepishly which was unusual. Ziva didn't usually shy away from what she has done at Mossad, most of the time she'd brag about it.

"Right then your on mash duty. No lumps, pretend it's the enemy if you have too." I tell her.

"Tony, come and help Tim with the oven. You must be able to work it out between the two of you." I order.

"Gibbs your handy with a knife, peel the Yams. Jimmy prep the stuffing. Ducky get abs a drink and try and calm her down and I'll try and sort the rest." I finish.

Everyone jumps into action. Tim and Tony manage to rig up the cooker so that it will work for now but who knows how long it will last. Abby was going to do chicken and turkey but we decided to ditch the turkey since it would take so much longer to cook.

We wait before putting in the other things and around two hours later we all sit down at the table. In typical Abby fashion there is a seating plan with adorable little turkey name settings. I'm sat in between McGee and Jimmy. With Ziva, Tony and Abby opposite and then Gibbs and Ducky sat at either end. It felt good to be surrounded by my 'family', it was nice to see us all chipping in as well helping to make the dinner instead of Abby doing everything.

We all say what we are thankful for which in Abby's case is me being bossy apparently and then we tuck into the feast in front of us. The rest of the night is filled with drinking and talking until it gets really late and a few people start heading home.

"You could always spend thanksgiving here tomorrow, Luca and Kyle are coming over but they won't mind." Abby tells me after most of the team had left.

"Thanks abs but I think I'm going to give Laura a call after all. I mean how bad can it be." I say nervously. I leave the party not long later and get a taxi back to my flat since I'd had a bit to drink.

I wake up the next morning and have some breakfast before finally picking up the phone and calling Laura. I pace impatiently as I waited for her to answer the phone. The longer it rang the more nervous I became.

"Hello?" I finally here Laura call from the other end of the phone.

"Hi, It's Megan." I reply shyly.

"Oh Megan, it's good to hear from you. It's been too long." She tells me.

"I just wanted to wish you a good thanksgiving, whatever your up to." I explain.

"We're having dinner here, you should join us." Laura says getting excited.

"I ...ummm...Don't know. That's not what I rung you for." I reply a little embarrassed thinking she would think all I wanted was an invite.

"I know, but it's been too long. I want to see you and what better day then today. Unless your busy." She asks sounding a little deflated.

"No, I'm not busy." I reply.

"Well it's sorted then. we're eating around 4. Oh it's going to be so good to see you Megs." She tells me.

I put the phone down not long later and start to get myself sorted out. It was already 11 and Laura lived an hour away meaning I need to leave just before 3. I finished up breakfast and then got in the shower.

A couple of hours late I was in the car and making my way down to Laura's house with nerves filling my stomach. I didn't know if they'd like me anymore. I didn't know what it was going to be like, me and Laura used have a strong bond but after collage everything changed.

I decided to make a pit stop at the local shop to get a bottle of wine and a dessert since I hated the idea of turning up empty handed. I then set back on my way down to Laura's. I arrived not long later and knocked on the door.

"Megan, come in." Laura says excited after she opened the door a few seconds later.

She shows me inside and introduces me to the family. It's weird this was my step family and I felt I knew nothing about them. Obviously I had never met Laura's knew husband or their 10 year old son but I seemed just as strange seeing my step nan and granddad who I had talked to up until I went to collage.

We all sat round the table a little while later the awkwardness starting to dissipate from the room a little by now.

A/N - I know this is a bit late 😂😂😂 hope you all like it 💕
