Haunted

Prequel Part 2

A/N - Just a trigger warning for suicide which is mentioned in this chapter.

That was on Wednesday and it's now Saturday, They have investigated and it's been deemed as unavoidable and I was back to work yesterday.Today I've got the day off and I'm taking Megan to her Ballet class like I promised.

I sat in the viewing room watching her twirl and dance about the studio, I couldn't have been prouder of my little girl she meant everything to me. She was beaming every second of the dance and came out an hour or so later still with a huge grin on her face.

"Did you have fun?" I question.

"Yeah, Can you bring me next time too?" She asks.

"I've got work baby but how about we spend all day together? You want to go for ice cream?" I ask.

"Yeah and shopping?" She asks.

"sure."I reply.

She goes to get dressed into some normal clothes I brought with us. Then we climb into the car and make our way into town. We go to the ice cream shop first and she picks chocolate chip while I have strawberry. We sit down at a table and she endlessly chats about school and all of her friends which is when I realise I actually haven't met any of them I don't think.

"What about Chloe Harris?" I ask, noting that she hadn't mentioned her best friend.

"Dad she moved schools 3 years ago." She tell me.

"Right, don't you talk to her anymore?" I ask.

"not much." She replies.

We went out of the shop and started looking in all of Megan's favourite clothes shops but all I could think about was the crash, I ran over an innocent 17 year old girl who had been left in a coma and I was already back at work. It didn't feel right.

"Dad can I get this?" She asked tugging on the sleeve of a jumper.

"Sure."I replied for about the 6th time, my bank balance was going to take a hit from this shopping trip.

"Can we go home now? I'm tired." Megan asks once we leave the shop.

"One more shop, I need to get something." I replied. We walked over to the jewellers and I picked out a gold heart necklace and asked the cashier to inscribe 'I will always love you' on the back which meant we had to wait a while.

Once that was done I drove us home and Megan ran up to her room to put her stuff away.

||Laterthat night||

Once Megan was in bed me and Laura watched a movie, once it had finished I turned and looked at her.

"You'll always look after Megan won't you? You know even though she isn't biologically yours?" I questioned.

"What are you talking about, If this about the crash you know that wasn't your fault." Laura tells me.

"Ok, but if I wasn't here you'd keep her? Take care of her?" I questioned.

"Of course I would, I love her." She replies.

"Thank you, I love you." I say kissing her cheek before getting up.

"Where are you going?" She questions nervously.

"Toilet." I say smiling lightly. I go upstairs and into the bathroom before flushing the toilet and go back downstairs.

"we're out of toilet paper, I'll just nip out and get some." I tell Laura.

"Are you sure, I can get some in the morning." She queries.

"And what would we do in the time being, I'll just nip out." I say grabbing my keys and pulling my coat on. We kiss and then I leave the house getting in my car.

I pull up in the multi storey car park I pull the envelopes out of my pocket and take 2 letters I had written out of the glove compartment of my car and place them in the envelopes. I Write Laura and Megan on the front of the envelopes and slip the necklace into one. I seal both envelopes and place them in my coat pocket.

I get out of the car and lock the door before walking over to the high edge of the car park. I manage to climb up and stand on the ledge.

"I'm sorry Hayley, I never meant for you to get hurt but I guess that's what happens when you take your eye of the road. Megan, Laura, I love you more than you'll ever know." I say out loud before jumping.
