I finally land in Washington D.C. from a three hour ride from Denver, Colorado.

Alex and I have always kept in touch even after we both went separate colleges. We have known each other since we were in diapers. We've been the thick, the thin and the thicker.

We have both had our rough patches but none of us were ever alone during them. And for that I am appreciative.

I am well aware how much of an ass Alex can be. He can go to the lowest of the lowest points.

But that only means that he is hurt. Whenever someone hurts him, he acts like a douche who doesn't care about anything. It's almost likes it's his defense mechanism.

I've packed for about two weeks time. I can only take off of work for so long. I don't know, I just feel like Alex needs me right now.

He didn't tell me anything about what was going on in Seattle. Just vague responses. That was the first sign.

The second sign was a tug on my conscience. Whenever I get that tug, Alex is either in trouble or going through something. And I couldn't get him out of my mind.

I don't know if someone hurt him, or if it was a part of the job. But I'm not going to let whatever this is, eat him up any further.

I walk down the steps of place and walk toward the airport. I retrieved my luggage and found my rental car. I did some research on Grace Hospital on the flight.

Doctors—surgeons— work 48 hour shifts and their days start at five in the morning.

Or in other words, right now it is 3:10 AM. Which means that Alex gets off roughly two hours.

Before I drive over there, I am going to buy two cups of cappuccinos and chocolate filled croissants.

We both are going to need it. So there I stood at the entrance of Grace Hospital with two cups of cappuccinos and chocolate filled croissants.

I check my watch to see it read 5:10 AM. I look up from my watch to see a group of five people.
My eyes scan the group until I find Alex. His eyes met mine and he does a double take as he sees me.

I do our secret whistle and he came running.

"Y/N!" He exclaims.

He skids to stop so he can lift me into his arms. I wrap my legs around his waist and chuckles as he squeezes me.

"Hello there stranger." I say, pulling away from the hug.

"When did you get here?" He asks.

"About two hours ago. I wanted to surprise you, to see how the hospital is treating you." I say.

He huffs and shakes his head.

"Which I'm guessing is not good?" I guess.

He eyes met mine and I say:

"Well I have a cappuccino and a chocolate filled croissant waiting for you if you want to talk about it."

He smile at me and says:

"I'm glad you're here, Y/N."

"I'm glad to be here, Al." I say.

I hop down from his legs and he asks:

"How long you staying?"

"Good. Then we will make your time here worth your while." He states.

"Hm. You just met the woman and you're inviting her into your bed. How classy of you." A blonde woman snarks as she walked passed.

"Excuse me?" I ask.

"Y/N, no—"Alex tries.

"No Alex. Clearly this blondey here has something to say. I would like to say it to my face." I say.

"Now, what did you just say to me?" I ask the blonde.

She stops and all the rest of her friend stopped with her.

"I said that you're new boyfriend is a skank, and he's probably going to give you syphillis." She states.

"Okay, listen to me very closely you blonde basic bitch. I'm not sure who invited you into our conversation. But you have mind your own damn business. If things did not work out between you two, that's you're problem. I'm not going to let a wench like you ruin the little time I have here. And just for the record, I'm his best friend from Iowa." I snap.

She crossed her arms and looks at me.

"What do you think that I am scared of you because you are taller than me or because there are more of you. Because quite frankly, I don't give two shakes of a rats ass how many of you are there. I'm going to go whatever it takes to honor Alex, and I can guarantee you that pretty face of yours will not be that pretty. That's how we do it in Iowa. So unless you have anything to say about that, I'm going to walk away with my cappuccino. Thank you very much." I add.

I hand Alex his cappuccino and croissant.

"Text me your address and I will meet you there." I say to him.

I glance back at the group before hopping into my car. My phone vibrates and it was Alex texting me his address. I put the address into the GPS and follow it to his house.

I roll my luggage up the stairs and knock on the door. Soon after, he opened the door and a small smile spread across his face.

"You are an icon." He states.

"Correct I am an Iowa icon. And she had no business talking to me, so she could kindly blow me." I say.

He chuckles and opens the door wide enough for me to walk through.

I go to the bathroom to change into my pajamas and get ready to bed. I walk out of the bathroom and pull my hair out of my ponytail. My dark brown hair flowed down to my shoulder blades.

I walk to Alex's room where he sat on the edge of the bed with his elbows resting on his knees. He bows his head and squeezed his hands together.

"Hey, Al. You okay?" I ask.

He looks up at me and shakes his head no.

I scan the room for a chair and grab one. I picked up the chair, and flipped it around so it was backwards. I sat down and crossed my arms on top of the chair.

"Okay, let's talk." I say.
