Ring!

Ring!

Ring!

"Ugh. Who is calling me at this hour and why?" I say groggily.

Without opening my eyes, I grab my phone and answer the call.

"Hello?" I answer.

"Y/N! How are ya?" I hear a familiar male voice says.

"Derek?" I say.

"Yup."

"Why are you calling me at three in the morning?" I ask.

"Well, technically it's seven over here. But I just had the best idea. So I have a patient that has abnormal spinal structure. We need to do a spinal bypass, and you are the first person who popped up in my mind." He states.

"Don't you have an orthopedic surgeon in your hospital?" I ask.

"True, she's great and all. But this is a very risky procedure, and you are the best of the best, since you graduated from top of your class at Duke. Plus, there is no one else who is an orthopedic surgeon who loves to terrorize my enemies...." He trails off, hoping that I read between the lines.

"Addison is there?" I ask.

"Guess who else." Derek states.

"Mark?" I say as I prop myself up on my elbows.

"Ding, ding, ding." He states.

"So, are you able to fly down here for a little while?" He asks.

"How long is 'a little while'?"

"Two or three weeks." He states.

I sigh as I run my fingers through my hair.

"You're one of my best friends, and I miss you. Please, Y/N." He begs.

"Oh fine. I'll be there in a couple days, I have to alert my chief first." I say.

"See you soon, I love you."

"Love you too." I say before I hang up.

"Hey, Y/RM/N!" I call to my roommate across the hall.

"Yeah?" She responds.

"A friend called and he would like me to fly to Seattle, Washington D.C. for a couple of days. Could you cover for me?" I ask.

"How long?" She asks.

"Two to three weeks." I say.

She stops talking and I hear her door open and close.

Soon after, she opens my door and says:

"Three weeks! Who's this friend you are abandoned me for?"

"Derek. Derek Sheppard." I sat.

"Ooo, McDreamy huh?" She teases.

"Eww, Y/RM/N. Derek is like my brother, that's disgusting!" I retort.

"Fine, then more for me." She says.

"Have a nice trip!" She adds before closing my door.

I huff as I collapse onto the bed.

Third Person P.O.V.:
"Dr. Sheppard, do you have any updates on your patient?" Chief Webber asks Derek.

"Yes, as a matter of fact I do. I have came to the conclusion that my patient needs a spinal restructuring. I called a friend from New York, who now lives in Las Vegas, California. She is certified in spinal restructuring and she has a 98% success rate." Derek states.
