Mike's POV

El hummed as we swayed back and forth. Everything was perfect. She looked perfect. She was perfect.

I closed my eyes, humming along, with my chin on her head as we embraced, feeling the melody.

The song ended and we stayed closely intwined.

A loud voice echoed on the loudspeakers of the gym, "Everyone, this is the last song of the 1984 Snowball."

El looked up at me with a sad look in her eyes. She knew that this meant goodbye. She whimpered, "Mike-I..."

I cut her off, "Shhh, it's okay. Let's just enjoy this moment while we can." I moved my hands from her slim waist and wrapped my arms around her neck, hugging her close.

Listen to "Almost Paradise" by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson. I know this song wasn't released until  February 1984, after the snowball but it's the perfect song for this moment. Keep reading and comment please!

El's POV

'I thought that dreams belonged to other men
'Cuz each time I got close
They'd fall apart again
I feared my heart would beat in secrecy
I faced the nights alone
Oh, how could I have known
That all my life I only needed you'

Mike sang the words softly in my ear. His voice was beautiful. Even though it was only a whisper, he sang the lyrics so tenderly. I felt that the words to the song were written for me, carved into our intertwined hearts.

'Almost paradise
We're knocking on heaven's door
Almost paradise
How could we ask for more?
I swear that I can see forever in your eyes
Paradise'

I smiled into Mike's shoulder, a tear falling slowly down my cheek and into his coat. I felt warm all over. Happy. That's what it was. I was...happy.

The song ended and we continued to rock back and forth as the kids shuffled out of the gym one by one. Now an instrumental song played in the background. We moved back and forth, our arms wrapped tightly around each other.

Nancy POV (shocker Ik 😂)

I smiled at the two of them from the other side of the room, humming the last song. I had volunteered to clean up after the snowball so that the chaperones and teachers could go home. Jonathan walked over to me smirking.

I looked at him, "They're cute." He nodded towards Mike and El.

I looked back towards them. They were still slow dancing to the faded music. Mike's eyes were closed and El had tears streaming down her content face. They looked so good together, so happy.

I chuckled, "They look perfect together. I never thought Mike could be so happy."

Jonathan looked at me with his puppy eyes and he took my hand, "We should keep cleaning up and give them some privacy."

I nodded, letting go of his hand and moving towards the punch table. I smiled to myself and started throwing cups into the trash bag on the floor.

Will's POV

I was still starry eyed after Lauren asked me to dance. She had always been nice to me in class and we did a few projects together.

She was a good dancer. She was funny. She was...pretty. And she asked me to dance. And she was looking at me.

"What?" I asked chuckling, looking up at her.

Her cheeks turned a pale red, "You."

My face quickly flushed, "What about me?" I asked curiously.

"You're-I-I don't get why people make fun of you," She looked at me, smiling, "You're a lot of fun. You're pretty cool, Zombie Boy."

I blushed fiercely, opening my mouth to respond to her, but was cut off by Max and Lucas rushing over as the last song ended. I glanced at Lauren and she took my hand and squeezed it. She nodded in understanding, knowing that we would talk later. She then disappeared in the crowd to find her friends.

My eyes followed her into the crowd. I turned back around to see Lucas and Max both bright red.

I smirked, "You guys must've had fun dancing."

They glanced at each other, "Yea, we had a lot of fun. Um, I need to go get my bag." Max walked swiftly towards the table where we had all left our stuff.

Lucas watched her leave as Dustin sauntered over to us, his hair slightly deflated but still taller than normal.

I high fived him, "Hey man."

"Guys you'll never believe it! Nancy danced with me."

Lucas's eyes widened, "Woah dude, like Nancy would dance with you."

"She did!"

"That's just as likely as Max playing D & D."

I turned as they kept arguing. Something caught my eye.

I nudged Lucas, "Guys, look," I pointed to the couple in the middle of the room.

Mike and El were dancing to the quiet instrumental music. They looked so peaceful.

"Aweeee! They're adorable," Dustin exclaimed.

Max came up behind us and moved in between me and Lucas, "Guys what's going on? Why do you all look like you just saw some puppies or something."

I nodded over to the last dancers in the gym.

"Mike looks so happy," Lucas said, grinning.

"They do look perfect together," Max replied, looking at them.

Some students walked past us. I spotted Lauren and she took my hand.

She smiled at me, "I had a great time. Seeya later Will," she leaned in and kissed my cheek softly. We both turned fiery red as she walked away with her friends.

Dustin and Lucas looked like they were about to burst.

"Will!"

"Guys stop," I blushed.

Nancy POV

I picked up the last cup off the ground.  Finally.

I glanced over at the dance floor. It was completely empty except for one couple.

Mike and Eleven still swayed to the music. I glanced over my shoulder and the boys and that new red head were all talking and laughing at a table. They were the only other people in the empty gym. I sighed.

"That's the last bit of confetti," Jonathan strolled over to me, a bag full of little flecks of silver and blue.

"You know you didn't have to stay and help, Jonathan."

He smiled, "I know. I just wanted to spend as much time with you as possible."

I giggled and he kissed my forehead softly, squeezing my shoulder.

I slowly pulled away from him. He looked down at me.

I glanced back at the center of the room. They looked so content, so happy.

"Should we tell them that it's time to say goodbye?" I looked at Jonathan for help.

"It's getting late and I don't think Hopper or Karen would be too thrilled with them being out too long. Or the other kids."

I sighed. I didn't want to make them say goodbye again. I saw what it did to Mike.

But I knew. It was time.
