Mike's POV

I sauntered into my room, smelling clean, with water dripping from my hair down my spine.  Okay I showered. Now I needed to go get some flowers. The wildflower patch was only a little while away from my house. I could go there then get to El's house in no time. Hopper's shift ends at midnight, so I'd have to be home by 11.

I couldn't wait to see her. I love her. That's all I know. And she deserves to be surprised on Valentine's Day.

A static sound came from my bed. The radio was giving off a voice. Dustin's voice.

"Hey man! Why'd you run away at the end of the day? Over."

I chuckled, "I had to get home fast so that I could get ready. Over."

I heard whispering in the background. Dustin had his finger on the button, ready to reply.

"Getting ready for what might I ask? Over."

"To see El," I whispered and I heard both Dustin and someone else, Will, laughing in the background.

"You guys are so in loooooove!" Will gushed over the radio.

"Shutup," I fake scolded them, joining in on the laughter, "Will are you going to ask Lauren?"

The radio got quiet. A small voice squeaked out, "Not yet."

I took a glimpse at the clock. 4:32, "Well you better get a move on. It's going to be dark in about an hour and a half and I don't think your mom wants you out after dark. Over."

I heard a long sigh, "I guess you're right,"

My eyes widened as I realized something. I whipped my head around. 4:34.

I pressed the speaking button on the radio, "Guys, I have to go! I'll see you both tomorrow at school. I'll tell you how it goes with El later. Over and out."

Dustin cut in, "Mike, I'm telling you. The single life is the way to go."

I rolled my eyes, "and OUT!"

I dropped my radio in my bed. I quickly got dressed into some comfy clothes. I looked him the mirror. My hair is so crazy. She always liked how crazy it was. I sometimes caught her looking at it. Just admiring. I smiled at my reflection. I don't know why she likes me. I'm okay looking I guess. I have weird cheekbones and so many freckles. I'm tall and skinny. What did she see? I grinned wider. She likes me. She chose me. And I have no idea why. I chuckled to myself.

I turned to my door and locked it. I already told my mom I was tired and decided to go to bed early. She's so oblivious. I rolled my eyes to myself.

I walked across the room and opened my window in one swift motion. I quickly swung my legs over the edge and slid on the roof. My feet hit the ground and I quickly picked up my bike and pedaled up the road. To the cute little cabin in the woods. To my El.

Lucas's POV

I pushed my bike slowly, as not to make creaking noises as I snuck into the dark junkyard. The Field was so peaceful at night. I remember the party used to have epic hide and seek games out here. I miss the old days. When things weren't so complicated. Before Will was taken. I mean I love El and Max is awesome but I wish things were normal again.

I left the thoughts in my head and set my bike down on the dirt. I smiled.

Laying in a patch of grass was Max. Her red hair glowed in the sunset that was slowly turning to darkness. Her eyes were closed and she was humming. I just stood there and watched her for a few moments. She was so gorgeous. She looked incredibly serene. I repositioned my foot and a rock rolled in front of me.

Max opened her eyes abruptly. She looked completely confused. Then she turned around and our eyes met.

"Stalker," she breathed.

"Hey Max," I said awkwardly. I put my hands behind my back and kicked the rock that I had stepped on.

"What're you doing here? How did you know I was here?"

"Oh...um...well...well I've seen you go this direction before and it was a weekly pattern so I thought you'd be here."

Her eyes widened, "You watch me?"

"No! I mean yes. I mean...," I stuttered over my words, my chocolate skin becoming a deep reddish brown.

Max looked amused, "You really are a stalker."

I looked back at her, "I actually came here to ask you something."

"And what could that be?"

I pulled a bouquet of red pansies from behind me. Max gasped.

"How did you know that I love pansies?" Max stood up, coming closer to me. She looked embarrassed for admitting that she likes flowers. She blushed and took the flowers from my outstretched hand.

"I've seen you sketching in class. You only draw pansies."

"Good observation stalker."

"Max," I looked into her dazzling blue eyes and I grabbed her hand. She quickly looked down at it and then looked back at me.

"What," she breathed out, nervous intensity pulsing through her eyes.

"I've had a crush on you for the longest time and I was wondering if you wanted to be my Valentine?" I rushed out, still holding my breath.

Max's eyes filled with joy and she jumped on me. I wrapped my arms around her waist as we embraced.

"Of course Lucas! I mean how could I say no to such a tubular dude," she giggled.

I let out a deep breath and laughed with her. She suddenly became serious and stopped laughing. She bit her lip and moved closer to me. I leaned into her face and our lips met. A warm sensation filled my chest. My stomach caught on fire and my heart started beating faster. Our lips moved together and we soon came apart. Her lips peeled into a sly grin.

"I should probably go. We wouldn't want Billy catching us out here together."

I shook my head, "Yeah that wouldn't be good at all."

Max smiled broadly and pecked my lips again, "Thankyou Lucas."

She turned away from me and quickly jogged down the road.

I looked around. Alone.

"OH YEAHHHHH!!!! WOO HOOOO!"
